Selene
Welcome, I'm Selene, Editor-In-Chief of the Psychic Times Newsletter. Each month, in this column, I'll be giving you the highlight's of
the issue and sharing some personal thoughts. Please read on...
Dear Readers,
Hello! Happy August to you! I hope you are all enjoying your summer and staying cool. Staying cool or keeping a cool head hasn't been too easy as the Eclipses in July have created somewhat of an emotional roller coaster ride. Even if they aren't directly affecting you personally, they surely are influencing the people around you. It is also a time of political and social upheaval as we cope with the economic situation that is having an impact on everyone. The news has been really interesting lately, we have seen a lot of surprising events so far this summer and the wild ride is not ending soon. The Moon continues to be a major influence during August since we have a rare third Eclipse on the 5th with the Full Moon in Aquarius followed by a Super Moon on the 20th with the New Moon in Leo. This summer has been a period of rapid change and a test of our commitment to our personal well being. Be sure to read my Horoscope column this month to be more aware of what is coming up for each of us in August. If you know your Ascendant and Moon signs, it's a good idea to read them along with the forecast for your Sun sign.
These Eclipses have been rather intense for me personally; the Lunar Eclipse on July 7th was conjunct my Capricorn Ascendant so I knew it was going to trigger changes for me. Eclipse windows are often very unpredictable and erratic times so I decided it was best to lie low and spend most of my time at home. You can't really avoid what an Eclipse is meant to teach you but you don't have to put yourself in the line of fire. I have done my best to stay cool and quiet, perhaps a bit reclusive but I am still always busy. I have been striving to catch up on things I've needed to do for a long time, clearing clutter and taking lots of salt baths. When I looked at the Eclipses lined up with my own chart as I wrote the Horoscope column for last month, I placed an order for a 55 pound bag of Himalayan sole salt crystals. I have been reading about and studying the effects of taking the sole baths with the lunar cycle. I will share my research in a future Eye-Opener article.
I have also taken an interest in the stock market over the past few months, not really as an investor, I can't afford to lose any money, but it sure is fascinating watching the trends. I watch the market each day and am tracking the fluctuation, trying to figure out more about how it works and how it relates to the news that day as well. I have been doing research for another article I intend to write for a future issue about prosperity, abundance and manifestation.
This month's Eye-Opener is "The Collective Experience of Grief", an essay on grieving and the recent deaths of well known celebrities Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. It is a very interesting read, with a lot to think about, I'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts, contact me at editor@psychictimes.com. Over the past month or two several prominent people who were cultural icons have passed over. As the old saying goes, it often happens in 3s but in this period of time it seems to be 3 times that. No doubt the eclipses we are experiencing this summer have some impact on this occurring at this time. The eclipses that occur just before our birth influence us to some degree for the rest of our lives. Since eclipses are windows of change they surely have an effect on death and when or how someone passes on as well. As an astrologer, I have found that Jupiter, the planet that rules expansion and the pursuit of higher truth, and/or Pluto, the planet of transformation are almost always involved when I look at what planetary transits were affecting someone at the time of their death. Pluto in Capricorn opposed the Sun in Cancer just after the Solstice during the two day period in which we lost three people who were very well known entertainers. Each of their deaths were grieved by people who never met them in person but felt well acquainted with them because of their long term public presence. We felt that we knew them since they were a part of our lives on some level for decades. The sadness surrounding their deaths touched each of us in some way. There are times when we know that someone is going to die due to age or illness and there are times when someone's passing takes us by surprise. It is never easy to adjust to the reality of death but the unexpected event is much harder to recover from and takes longer to reconcile or come to terms with.
The death of television icon Ed McMahon on June 23rd was not a surprise, due to the fact that he was 86 years old. He had been hospitalized earlier in the year with pneumonia and diagnosed with bone cancer. The last few years of his life had not been kind to him. A problem with the plumbing and a botched repair allowed his home to become filled with toxic mold that caused him and his family to have serious health problems. It was proven that the mold infestation was a direct cause of the death of his dog. He was involved in various law suits since 2002 because of this and also due to problems encountered as a result of the surgeries he had after breaking his neck in 2007. He did not receive proper care and his injuries were quite debilitating. He experienced huge financial losses due to his physical health problems that lead to the near foreclosure of his home in 2008. He brought these issues into public awareness to share the story that the economic crisis could hit anyone. The hardships he endured at the end of his life hardly seemed fair to someone who had worked so hard his entire life and seemed like such a nice guy. He was honored by the public and in the media for his long career. His death brought an end to his problems and suffering experienced in the final years of his life.
On June 25th as I was finishing up the articles for our July issue, we were watching our favorite cable news network and learned of the death of Farrah Fawcett earlier that morning. I felt so sad for her and her loved ones, reflected on the pathos of life about how someone who had been an icon of beauty and expressed such concern for others through her work to raise awareness about domestic violence could have experienced such a devastating illness. Even with all the resources available to her along with having the money to receive the best care, she lost her ongoing battle with cancer. She was with her loved ones and had come to a place of acceptance regarding the inevitable outcome. Her courageous journey through the darkest days of her life had been documented and shared with the world so that she could tell her own story and let the truth be known. Her famous poster from 1976 made her one of the best known celebrities from that decade. She walked away from the hit television show she starred in because she wanted to be known as more than just a pretty girl with beautiful blonde hair. She was very private about her personal life considering how well known she was. Just as she had stood up to the media and entertainment business decades ago to prove her abilities as a serious actress she took charge of how her illness, various medical and alternative treatments, and subsequent death would be viewed by the rest of the world. She did not want inaccurate or unfair media exploitation even at the end of her life which was so sadly shortened. A true Aquarian, if anyone was going to put her story out there, she was going to do it herself, and she made sure she did it her way. It is very interesting that the death of a woman who was the face of the 70's was eclipsed just hours later by unexpected death of a man who was the definitive star of the 80's. Both had long careers and were in the limelight for decades.
We saw the breaking news about Michael Jackson being taken to the hospital after he was found collapsed and unconscious at his home. In fact he was taken to the same hospital where Ed McMahon had died just two days before. It was shocking news and I prayed for him to be ok, I felt that extraordinary measures were being taken to save him and perhaps he would pull through what was reported as cardiac arrest. We stayed glued to the news for hours and watched as our fears were confirmed and it was announced that he had died. People had gathered outside the hospital as word went out over the media and internet. The congestion online shut down AOL instant messenger for 40 minutes and Google thought there was an attack on their search engine since so many people looked Michael Jackson up at once. Twitter, TMZ, Wikipedia and The Los Angeles Times websites all experienced crashes and outages from the intense traffic on the web. The news of his death literally stopped the news cycle on other events for nearly two weeks as millions of people all over the planet wanted to hear more about what happened and why. People gathered in front of his family's home in Encino, in front of his Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara county, at the Apollo Theatre in New York City, in London and in Gary, Indiana where he was born. The world almost seemed to be in suspended animation as all the coverage on television, the internet, newspapers and magazines focused on the unfolding story and subsequent chaos it created.
Many people felt devastated by this loss not only for Michael Jackson, his children and family but for the loss of someone who, whether you were a fan or not, was a part of the soundtrack of our lives on this planet over the past 40 years. We may have grown up with him being around the same age, and remember the Jackson 5 when they first appeared on national television. Or we may have grown up with his songs being children of the 80's. After he broke away from his family and became a solo artist he was quickly on his way to becoming the King of Pop. Thriller was the best selling album ever, it has been sold around the world and people of all ages have danced along with him for decades. Despite all the trouble and controversy in his life, he was a cultural icon, brilliant artist and made an impact on the world that won't be forgotten. He broke the color barrier and helped to pave the way for others to follow in his footsteps.
In these defining moments that affect so many of us, we remember where we were and what we doing when we heard this news of his recent death. His music took over the charts and Amazon.com literally sold out of several of his cds in the week following his death. The expressions of grief and wanting to maintain a connection to Michael Jackson were worldwide. Since he was famous for over 40 years and had millions of fans, even people who were not familiar with his music or the phenomena of his popularity were still shaken to some degree. It was a shock to see this end to his story, to see how the truth of his loneliness and struggle for self acceptance still plagued a person who seemed to have everything. He had dramatically changed his appearance over the years and had ongoing pain and physical problems from the accident that he had during the filming of a Pepsi commercial at the height of his career in 1984. He was planning his big comeback, a swan song to touring followed by later settling in Las Vegas with his kids and becoming a fixture on the lucrative entertainment scene there. He was about to prove to everyone that he still had that spark and magic in his rather ironically named tour "This Is It". Watching the films of the dress rehearsal after he died was surreal. How could someone be so vibrant, captivating and larger than life one day and gone the next.
The memorial service was held at the Staple's Center in downtown Los Angeles where he had been rehearsing. Nearly 2 million people tried to obtain the tickets to the memorial service. It was a huge production and turned out amazingly well for being thrown together so quickly during the chaos that followed his death. His Mother was concerned that his Spirit would wander and wanted him laid to rest. It truly was as if a King had died, a quite elaborate but heartfelt tribute to Michael as we felt his presence most intensely in this huge gathering. We watched as a family grieved the loss of their father, brother, uncle and son. We watched as thousands of fans sat in respectful silence as his brothers wore one white glove as they helped to wheel in the solid bronze coffin accented with 14kt gold and covered with red roses. The big screen behind the stage was filled with pictures of him from all the different stages of his life, along with all his different looks. We heard the adoring crowd pour out their love and condolences. We watched as his closest friends, colleagues and family spoke about him and performed. At the end of the services they flooded the stage unexpectedly and sang his songs together. We saw how a beloved man was mourned and made to seem very human, loving and real. It made us forget the controversy, sometimes odd or erratic behavior and rumors at least for those moments. We were moved to tears by the raw grief of his daughter as she proclaimed her lifelong love for her Daddy and was comforted by her brothers, aunts and uncles. These children who had been hidden so successfully by their Dad so that they could be out in public without being recognized came out in front of the world at last. It was a moment in time that we won't forget. People everywhere mourned his loss and felt moved by the displays of emotion and love for Michael.
It is very interesting that the memorial was held on July 7th, the day of the Full Moon in Capricorn, an emotional Lunar Eclipse. It was also 7 years to the day since he had signed his last will and trust on July 7, 2002. No doubt we will be hearing about the long process of settling his affairs for years to come.
Despite what anyone may think of him and the decidedly peculiar way he lived, we were shown a person who struggled with who he was and never healed from the wounds he felt from his lack of a childhood. His personal grief and sadness was palpable, you could feel it. Over the next months and years the dramatic story and complications in settling his estate will continue to play out. It is a real life soap opera but once again he is at the top of the charts. He has influenced and helped so many young artists who based their careers on his talents. The shock of his sudden death is still with us as we watch the drama unfold. As his good friend Liza Minnelli stated, "Let's mourn and honor him now since all hell will break loose once the toxicology reports are released". His first wife, Lisa Marie Presley, posted a heart wrenching essay about Michael on her MySpace blog the day he died titled simply "He Knew". Both of them lost a parent under similar circumstances and no doubt relived that experience as they endured their grief over this loss that so many were powerless to stop.
As the Solar Eclipse took place with the New Moon in Cancer on July 21 various law enforcement agencies moved forward with their investigations of the doctors and other health care professionals who may have been involved in the enabling or negligence that lead to his death. At this time it looks as if charges could be filed against some of the people who were his health care providers, and I am sure that there will be much more to this story at the next Lunar Eclipse on August 5th. The timing does not feel like a coincidence at all.
In 1969 Elizabeth Kubler Ross defined the 5 stages of grief in her groundbreaking book "On Death and Dying". That same year, the Jackson 5 burst upon the national scene on TV and young Michael became an instant star. We watched as the first men walked on the Moon. He later became known throughout the world for his dance "The Moonwalk". We have collectively experienced the grief of his sudden demise along with that of both Ed and Farrah. The passing of each of them has some impact on us, whether we were fans or not. Our lives will not be the same without them. Rest in Peace.

Meet Spirit Speaks, our Psychic of the month for August! She has been with us on Psychic Access since April 2009 and we are very happy to have her on our staff. She is a lovely person with a warm and charming personality that radiates her spiritual nature and inner beauty. This extremely talented professional psychic is also a gifted healer. Join us in getting to know her and look for her on Psychic Access for an honest, healing and very accurate reading.
Selene: Hello Spirit Speaks, it is so nice to meet you. It is always interesting to hear how psychics came to embrace their gifts. As a life-long Empath when did you first become aware of your abilities? Was your family supportive or cognizant of this when you were a child?
Spirit Speaks: I first became aware when I was a small child. I had the gift of empathy which is the ability to feel what others feel, even without them telling you.
Selene: Were there certain events or precognitive experiences that led you to recognizing your unique talents? How did you decide to become a professional psychic?
Spirit Speaks: Yes. I had my first precognitive experience when I was 14. It was that my Uncle had died and it terrified me to the point of tears and being very upset. Within a few days my mother got a call and was hysterical – that Uncle, her brother, had been flown by helicopter to a major hospital from a small town, as he had a ruptured bleeding ulcer among other things and they did not expect him to live. He was given the last rights by a priest, but thank God he pulled through in the end and did live.
I then went on to have precognitive experiences regarding others near deaths….some were people I had not seen in years, yet it would hit me out of the blue and be very detailed. Those experiences were very scary for me. I woke up from sleep one time the exact minute a dear friend of mine died, and I was weeping like she had passed. She had been given another month to live (she had cancer) but passed the same minute I awoke and was hit with the grief, so it confused me at the time. I found out she passed the following morning. Not all my precognitive experiences have been bad ones but they can be scary when they happen, as they always come true. I had to learn, especially as a parent, to define and learn the difference between my own fear, and a precognitive experience, which is not easy to do at all times, especially when the gift first ‘hits' you.
Selene: You read without tools, do you have a process or method that you use to tap into your client's information? Did you study to develop your natural skills or have a mentor?
Spirit Speaks: I just focus…..and I ask spirit/creator to give me the info I need and clarity before I read. I have found that using tools actually seems to hinder me….and I trust what I get at the time. Often the info is coming to me before the client asks the question. As humans, none of us are 100 percent accurate, ever, and I certainly will never claim to be. However my success rate especially with longer term views (ie: he will come back to you yes but will it work for the long haul etc) are highly accurate, as told to me by my clients.
I have studied yes. I had to study and learn to meditate and harness my gift as often I could not sleep at night…..information would hit me 24/7 and I found it very hard to shut myself ‘down'. I have read dozens of books on having the gift, how to use it responsibly and ethically, and taken classes on how to open up certain areas of it even more. I have taken the Advanced Level in Theta Healing, which encompasses my psychic gifts a lot and has also enhanced them.
Selene: How do you feel your prior life experience, career and academic studies have contributed to the work you do now? Are you a full time professional reader now or do you have another job too?
Spirit Speaks: I am a very down to earth but professional person. I spent 25 years in the business world before deciding to do this full time as I felt it was my calling. I have taken courses in Mediation, Victim counseling, PTSD, conflict resolution and also diffusing hostility. I spent a total of 15 years as a professional in the Criminal Justice system, both in Canada and the United Kingdom. I feel all of it contributes to my work now on a daily basis as I have a complex understanding of human beings and how things affect them on an emotional and spiritual level.
Selene: When you read for someone you are focused on helping to empower them, please share some more about the unique ways you are able to help your clients.
Spirit Speaks: It saddens me when occasionally there are people that feel they have no control over their life, or they do not see their own worth and may be in a very destructive or even abusive relationship. If I pick up on issues like that and see a client repeating the same hurtful/harmful patterns I empower them by trying to show them what the lesson is and also showing them what they are worth. So much of being in a healthy place means loving yourself first and foremost. They may want to hear that this person will come back into their lives for instance, but it can sometimes be for all the wrong reasons and also because they do not feel anyone else will ‘love' them. I make sure they see all the options and teach them they have a choice in their life and sometimes we need to work on ourselves first, in order to make the best choices we can. I also empower by assisting with communication skills. So often relationships fail for the simple reason that people are not communicating effectively and they talk ‘at' each other, instead of ‘with' each other. Improving communication and learning how to do it from the heart, rather than blaming, can be instrumental in completely turning a relationship around for the better.
Selene: One of your specialties is Love and Romance readings, what do you do to tune in to the situation? It seems like the information just flows for you, how do you do that?
Spirit Speaks: The information does flow….it's hard for me to explain but it just does. I take the persons first name and usually DOB…that helps me connect to their energy and then I focus on their questions. I can usually pick up the personality and fears and very deep issues in a relationship with just that. I tend not to do general readings though, I like questions. I find the more detailed or focused the questions are, the more detailed the information I receive for the client. I just close my eyes and go into a Theta state very quickly (which is a different brain wave) and when I focus on the questions, the answers come.
Selene: Please share your beliefs about soulmates with us. Do you feel we have one and only one soulmate we are destined to be with? How does one know if they are with their soulmate?
Spirit Speaks: I feel we do have soulmates, but I also feel that the whole concept of soulmate itself is highly over rated. I do not feel that we have only one soulmate that we are destined to be with. While I have seen that on occasion, it rarely happens in my experience. We have many soulmates and I teach my clients that while we have many soulmates we can meet in this life time, they are all part of our soul family. They can be romantic or just friends in nature; they can be the same sex or opposite.
The reason I feel it is over stated and so misunderstood is that I have seen too many people totally lose their personal power because they feel this person is their soulmate and they will never find another. They have ended up putting up with emotional abuse or mistreatment in a big way with that other person not giving back nearly what you are giving them, that's where the empowerment comes in. Many of us meet soulmates and it's in order to work through a past life issue, and it can often be a painful lesson and not a happy one. Some can end up being a soulmate, which is someone who is also totally compatible and the two are at the same level in life and want to be with each other equally. That is just not the case in every situation.
I tend to steer my clients into focusing on finding a loving, healthy relationship; instead of just focusing on the word soulmate itself.
Selene: You are in the process of becoming a certified Life Coach, please tell us what is involved in this certification and how will that assist you in guiding your clients?
Spirit Speaks: Part of what I do as a spiritual advisor has always been life coaching in itself, so the two can go hand in hand very nicely for me. I have to complete many months of training and lessons before I become certified, which should be this fall. I feel it will just aid me in helping clients achieve the goals they want in this life; being able to give them sound advice and direction is all part of being a good spiritual advisor. Many clients ask me not only for a psychic reading but direction in HOW they can change their path and achieve the life or career or relationship that they want.
Selene: I see that you are an advanced Theta DNA2 healer; that is such a powerful method. Please tell us more about that healing modality and how it can benefit someone. Is this something you can do in a phone or chat session?
Spirit Speaks: OH this method still is so understated in my opinion. I am still amazed at the results I see when I do a healing on a client.
This modality is one that is totally based on beliefs and how negative or self destructive beliefs can be held by us, even on a very subconscious level. It is also a modality that links beliefs with physical pain or problems. Science and quantum physics has proven this modality works. Our beliefs are held in our DNA, each thought we have in our lifetime and our DNA also holds beliefs from past lives, genetically (from our parents, family). When you begin to remove long held negative beliefs, some very powerful things can happen and I have not had one client that has not felt very immediate results with Theta healing. I myself was able to cancel one surgery I was slated for last January all due to theta healing clearing up the problem that had been affecting my health for almost a year. It amazed me at what beliefs were attached to this problem. I have seen it heal serious health issues and also things like headaches, muscles aches and you name it. I would encourage all to try it at least once. It does wonders on changing relationship patterns and attracting different people into our lives and breaking the negative cycles of the past. I would like anyone who is interested to contact me. We can set up a time and I will lower the price to $95 per hour for a Theta healing session before you come into the session.
Selene: What else would you like to share about your readings and how you can help people? I would love to hear more about Manifesting & Abundance coaching, that sounds really helpful with the current economic situation.
Spirit Speaks: Manifesting has a lot to do with our attitude. When I want to manifest anything I put it out to the Universe and leave it there. I have faith, period. I have also had to remove many negative beliefs that I may have held long ago, so see things from a very positive outlook to begin with. This helps considerably. I teach clients how to do their own vision boards for what they want and faith is very key in all of it. I have manifested everything from real estate, to kitchen cupboard doors given to me for free from a shop, just as I was wanting to reface a bunch of cabinets. The perfect pet, a healthier relationship, a better job, it all can be had……but I always go back to Faith. Faith that it will happen but also Faith that you deserve it. The more we secretly feel or say ‘oh it will never happen for me'……well guess what it probably won't!! I always use the phrase, "We will probably only ever get, what we expect to get, no more" and it's true. So sometimes in order to manifest successfully, one needs to re-program their own perceptions and beliefs that are holding them back in the first place.
Selene: What advice do you have for people who are facing hard times right now?
Spirit Speaks: Don't lose faith…..first and foremost our faith is what gets us through and our attitude is what defines our life and our destiny. There is no such thing as No hope when you are my client as there are the brightest blessing to be found, even in the hardest of circumstances. When a door closes a window always opens. Seek out a mentor and begin working on yourself. Hard times are never forever and I always want people to know these times are only temporary. Hard times often come to challenge us and make us grow and that is the life lesson. I know when I have faced hard times; I try to embrace it and take what I can learn from it away and be the stronger person for it. Always count your blessings, the cup is never half empty it is half full ? This makes the hard times much easier to get through actually and I always strive to assist my clients in discovering the reason or lesson behind the hard time.
There is an affirmation I use for my clients when they feel powerless in any given situation and it helps to bring them back to being centered:
"No one can take away my Power, Without my Permission"
It helps to realize that no matter what situation we may be facing, we are always the ones in charge and control of our own lives. Don't give away your power, ever.
Selene: Have you always lived in Western Canada? Please tell us more about your home and the beautiful area you live in.
Spirit Speaks: I was born and raised here and would not trade it for the world. I feel blessed to live in a place that is abundant with mountains and the ocean all at my feet. I spend a lot of time in the woods or at the beach walking my dog with my kids or in the mountains at a family getaway we have. I feel it is a very spiritual place and I am a Taurus, Mother Earth, so I need to feel connected to the earth and it grounds me totally.
Selene: You are very close to your children and pets please share a bit with us about your personal life. It sounds like you have a lovely family!
Spirit Speaks: I have two sons that I am very proud of. One is in University studying to be a teacher and he is 19. He and I have always been close and regularly have our heart to heart talks. When he graduated from high school he was awarded a Scholarship for demonstrating outstanding Leadership and that was one of my proudest moments. My youngest son is 15 and wants to go into law when he leaves school. He is a sweetheart and has often reached out to help others for no reason, even at a very young age, and I love seeing the compassion and empathic part of him in action. He has had awards in sports and school for being the most inspiring and top team player. That makes me very proud, of course. I left the career world in order to help others even more, but I also knew, as a Mom, that the time with our children can never be replaced, ever, and those moments always serve to make me realize once again how I am right where I am meant to be in my life.
I try to do as much as we can as a family even though they are getting older, to keep us close. I know these days won't last forever, and it's all gone so fast!! We are actually going on a cruise to Alaska in August and most likely it will be our last big trip as I am sure my 19 year old will not always want to travel with Mom and little brother!! So we are all looking so forward to this cruise and we have friends coming with us too. I will not be available on Psychic Access from the 9th of August until the 17th as we will be away, but am available the rest of the month.
We are definitely a family that loves animals. We have a crazy beagle whom we love to pieces, her name is Sam. She considers us her pack and she is the most lovable dog I have ever met. The boys are crazy about her and she is crazy about them. We take her for walks and to the beach as often as possible so she can run off as much steam as she wants. We also have a cat who is the sweetest cat and is only a year old. The moment we brought her into the house the dog and her were like long lost buddies and they get along wonderfully and even sleep together all cuddled up. We cannot imagine our life or our house being the same at all without these wonderful animals.
Selene: What other hobbies and recreational activities do you enjoy? What are you currently reading or studying these days?
Spirit Speaks: Hiking, walking, reading, love spending time with friends and family.I am still finishing up the last few courses on the Life coaching program but will not finish until the fall now as August is so busy for me. I am also studying more to fine tune the Theta Healing techniques and the DNA work, specifically. I am quite sure I will take further advanced coaching programs or courses too once I complete this basic, initial course.
Selene: Last but not least, how do you like working on Psychic Access? It looks like you already have a lot of regular clients and I bet there will be many more once people get to know you better through this interview. When are you usually available on Psychic Access for sessions?
Spirit Speaks: I love working on PA actually. I have found the clients to be very good and their expectations realistic. I love the way the site is run like a fairly tight ship and that standards and ethics are in place. It is smaller in size but a great group of gifted people work here. I find it admirable that clients can come to this site knowing Doug only hires the best and we have all undergone some scrutiny and been tested to be here.
I am usually available from late morning until later in the evening. I do miss the occasional day due to life and schedules but intend on putting as many hours in, as available whenever I can.

Feraion :::
Provides us with a light-hearted monthly column in an effort to get us to smile, which we all need to do more of.
Feraion lives in Australia where his day job is an accounting university professor. He was originally from England where he learned Qabalah from students of Dion Fortune herself, where he was the Radio Medway astrologer for a couple of years, where he edited the Astrological Association's magazine Transit for a bit longer, and where he was warden of a qabalistic SDG for over a decade. He has lived in China and Singapore for over 15 years and is now in his third year with Psychic Times.
Ever since the musical Hair was staged in New York and London in 1968, this has been the dawning of the Age of Aquarius, just like they say in the show’s most famous hit song. Whenever an outer planet transits or aspects Aquarius, columnists in the new age press will line up to share their excitement that enlightenment and exciting change are on the way, usually to be accompanied by consciousness raising on all signs. It is well put by Judi Thomas in her current (July-December 2009) article in Horoscope Almanack, where she calls the current transit of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune through late Aquarius “a regular Aquarian lollapalooza!” I really like this new word, it sounds good, it invokes excitement and it does not yet have any meaning at all – really apt for the Age of Aquarius which may or may not have really started yet. Some astrologers say we’ll have to wait till 2216; others say it began with the War of Independence in 1776.
The Age of Aquarius is one of the star inventions of the Baby Boomer generation who were born between 1945 and 1964. There was no such concept before that, unless you count references in a small number of esoteric books to precessions of the equinox, but in those books, Aquarius was just one sign among 11 others. It had not yet found its lollapalooza. The Baby Boomers had their identity forged in the sixties by the Beatles, the Vietnam War, Civil Rights, Bob Dylan, the death of the Kennedy brothers and the rise of Feminism. Traditional astrology associates Aquarius with radicalism, invention, eccentricity, acquaintanceship and the media. Current astrologers associate it also with computers, internet and especially ‘web 2’ phenomena like Facebook and Twitter. Aquarian relationships are intimate but uncommitted, and on the web you can be anyone you want to be, and if your e-friend offends you, block him off. Until the thought police find a way to monitor, control and prosecute people on the internet for opinions the state does not like, anyone can say anything to anybody. Only child porn or Islamist terrorist sites carry the credible threat of punishment of those who connect to them, but that little list is quite likely to expand steadily. Aquarius is radical but definitely not liberal (in the European sense, not the American). Think of political correctness or of the animal liberation front and you get an idea of Aquarian intolerance. Think of Apple vs PCs, of Yahoo vs Google, of the castration of Napster before it begot cheap MP3 downloads, or of the rising battle between Twitter and Facebook in the web two arena – and you get the idea of Aquarian readiness to share and collaborate. It may be radical but it is also very, very territorial. Collectivity and communal values yes; but on my terms not yours.
The Baby Boomers are moving into their Third Age. In many countries they have a vountaristic, collectivistic, decentralized set of lecture meetings in towns aimed at retirees, which they appropriately call the University of the Third Age. The Aquarian generation is now moving into its Third Age, making the Third Age, say age 60 plus give or take 5 years, yet another dawning of the Age of Aquarius. We can predict some of the consequences. First, compulsory retirement will steadily dissolve as Baby Boomers fear old age, often confuse self and career, and they have already done most of the international travel they wanted to do. Generation X (born 1965 to 1984) will support this as it saves its members the cost of paying for Baby Boomers’ retirement. Second, web 2 sites like Facebook and Twitter will privatize into closed off interest group sub-sites more and more, as shared values and hobbies become more and more important than general chat to the general public, and as everyone gets fed up with meaningless surveys and polls coming through the junk-mail. Third, a belief in reincarnation will enter mainstream thinking in the next twenty years more painlessly than did ecological consciousness in the last twenty. Baby Boomers do not like to acknowledge aging, death or mortality very much, so reincarnation appeals greatly to their vanity and there is certainly enough evidence now publicly available for it not to seem like wishful thinking any longer. Of course we in the New Age movement know reincarnation is real and only some of us are Baby Boomers, but it has never quite become fashionable in mainstream magazinery. It soon will be.

Each month the lovely and most talented Salome imparts some Shamanic wisdom and teachings upon us and shares some
interesting personal tidbits. Salome was a reader on Psychic Web for many years and can now be found on

We hope you enjoy Shaman's Corner.
"Soul Retrieval"
One of the services shamans provide to people is Soul Retrieval. Unlike what you read in books and on the net, it's actually a very simple process. Many times the person seeking the service doesn't even need to ask for it, Soul Retrieval IS what shamans do. Anyone can be trained to do energy work. Not so with Soul Retrieval.
Why is this? Because a shaman, in order to help you, has to have accomplished their own Soul Retrieval beforehand. This is why I am so against people who hang out a shingle after a 3 week Shamanic Course and call themselves a shaman. Rubbish. People find what they go looking for, but in the case of Soul Retrieval, please do your homework and find a shaman who can actually do the work.
If they have to go through huge ceremonies and huge rituals, be worried and don't part with your money. We've all seen those TV documentaries where the shaman goes through the boogaloo gyrations and preparations in order to go fetch someone's spirit. What they don't tell you is the true shaman can do it without all the trappings. No true spirit helpers I know would say, “Well you don't have your cat fur cloak on so I can't work with you”. Shamans can wear blue jeans and a t-shirt and do a Soul Retrieval for you, if necessary. Fancy frosting is great promo, but it doesn't impress the spirits. Nor does it have the ability to call the soul or soul parts home. The fancy dances and strange ceremonies are tools. Only that. Humans have this uncanny need to make things much more elaborate and involved than they need to do.
I have the most wonderful prop I use in my work, if people need to see such. It's a small Toucan bird made of pottery. It's a whistle, an ocarina. I've seen them advertised as spirit containers. Someplace for the shaman to put the spirit in and carry it back to the person missing a few parts. Silly nonsense for the gullible, but it sure makes good theatrics!
Shhh... don't let this out, but, all a shaman really has to do is put their focus on you and ZIPPP! the soul part literally comes running, fast forward straight towards you and it's home. Which, by the way, is YOU. No fancy footwork, no chant, just the soul part knowing it's time to come home because the shaman has pricked its awareness. It's like your mom calling you in for dinner when you were a little kid. One minute you're out playing with friends, and the next minute you hear her voice. You come running because you're hungry and want to come home. You go home to get fed and nourished and loved. It really is that simple.
Yes, your soul parts do come running back. Flying or whizzing back sometimes. New York Minute fast.
What people will find when they work with a shaman is they suddenly may start to feel better, happier, lighter in spirit than they did before they asked a shaman for help. Most people really don't know what is wrong with them, not really. All they know is they don't feel physically well, or strong. They will say things like “I've always been this sad, or this is how I am, and I've never been really strong. The problem lies within my genes/DNA.”
I have a real issue with this because it does not explain why a person with a happy life, and good family remains long term sad or physically weak. A solution is NOT to be found in the present. You must look to the distant past for answers. If you go to the root cause, the latter issues won't have a reason for being. Remove the first cause, and the sheep causes stop following. Attachments detach and once again you feel light, but happy and solid, and clear minded. You'll also begin to get a very clear sense of why you are here in this lifetime. It's often when what you thought was your karma to bear, takes it's leave from your life. Soul recovery leaves one feeling whole, literally. Complete is good.
People bring soul loss with them from horrid experiences and trauma incurred in past lives. It really is true they have inherited it, but what they don't realize is that the trauma is from way, way, way in the past. A life, or lives, one lived; left deep wounding, deep scars. This is why, in many cases, you see soldiers who go to fight wars, but some can't shake PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and some seem to be able to do things to manage it. One has deep soul loss from a past life related to wars, the soldier who fought next to him may experience the same things, but in the latter's past lives, the soul loss was healed, whereas in the first soldier's, it was not. When the horror occurs present life, one can't get through it, but one CAN. One had soul loss from a past life or lives like unto the terror, one did not. This is also why you see people who live horrid and tragic lives that pull through and are happy, but another does not. It's past life soul loss. Shamans use the term predilection to describe this tendency.
Soul loss from past lives should always be seriously considered in discussing a person's tendencies, because they reoccur. If you keep having the same issues, wake up. It's past life soul loss and you really should consult a shaman for help. When a person decides they are going in round and round in circles, always trying to figure out what is wrong with them, it is a sign that past lives soul loss is the problem. The answers just don't present themselves as trauma in the current lifetime no matter how much energy work is done.
It is vital that trauma or soul scarring issues be cleared from past lifetimes before the present ones can be addressed. One sure sign is energy work shopping. We've all met people who keep going from one healer to the next looking for clearing. When they are confronted by, or seek out a shaman, that is where the shopping spree ends.
A shaman won't begin at the surface, they always go deeper. They can see the traumas logged within the body as dark spots or mugged up energy. The appearance of these places feels stuck and muggy. Ooogy is the operative description. Clogged meridians in the body is just one example of trauma causing soul loss way, way, way in the past. Whining over and over about the same issues without relief, is another.
A shaman doesn't necessarily worry about what is going on with you in the now. They always know it has a cause started long ago. For this reason some shamans can come across as really harsh and make you feel like, “OW! You're poking my psyche'!” They rarely empathize, but go right to work excavating damage calling back the soul parts and healing the wounds. They are masters at bringing the person's soul into wholeness. Sometimes it can hurt briefly when you heal past life injuries, but it is more like a brain pain to realize one hasn't really been all here! It also gives one the feeling something was taken away that you owned but now it's back.
Once the soul loss has been fixed, and the person starts to feel as if they can run marathons or join Mensa, then whatever other trauma has attached to the original injury has nothing left to cling to and dissolves.
When a person is born into their present lifetime, they carry all the talents, and injuries occurred in past lives with them into their new incarnation. Often the incidents in past lives will show up as birthmarks, moles, personality quirks, personal likes and dislikes, etc., etc, etc..
Does one always have to look to soul loss as the main problem? Well no, As you go about your day to day life, growing up, interacting with others and engaging in various adventures, you're always going to be subject to spirit loss. There will not come a time when you're not vulnerable or exposed. If you keep yourself healthy and try to have as much of a positive outlook on life; then spirit loss is usually minimal and recovery occurs naturally. There is a huge difference between soul loss and spirit loss but many fake shamans can't tell you the difference. Spirit loss is when you get bumped, have an accident, or have been sick but when you attempt healing, you yourself can sense recovery is happening. You get the sense you are healing and you know where the loss or damage occurred. Not true with Soul Loss.
When should you consider having a Soul Retrieval done? Anytime you keep feeling depressed, or feel 'out of it' and it stays or keeps repeating, then it may be time to ask for one from a shaman. Will any shaman do? No, it's like any other personal service you seek help with. The shaman has to come across as competent, and give you a feeling that what they say they can do, they actually can do. This is especially important nowadays when it seems anyone can hang out a shingle after going to a 3 week seminar and say they offer shamanic services. There is a lot of fraud out there, so it helps to listen to your guides, your gut and use some common sense. If you feel it's not correct. It's not.
Earlier in this article I mentioned that many times when you go to see a shaman, the soul or soul part is retrieved almost instantaneously. It's true. Something about shamans and their energy is recognized by the lost soul or soul parts. It's as if an AHA! Instant recognition occurs and the soul, or soul part, comes out of hiding and releases itself. This is because there is something that occurs with shamans where the energy just envelopes or cocoons the soul and says. “It's safe, come home now”. What does it feel like afterwards soul or soul parts recovery? Good. Very good. I've always felt like this is where we get the phrase “I've finally got it all together!”
During the 60's kids tuned in, dropped acid and dropped out. I've often surmised they were really on a soul journey to other realms to find their soul parts from past lives, or trying to. It's uncanny how the powers that be will give us back door instructions to start treasure hunting for ourselves. In the 1970's the kids who had come of age had to go find themselves because it was accepted as the norm they weren't there. In the 80's it was the 'me age'. Me, me, mine. Me first.
We got lost in the 60's. Went in search for ourselves in the 70's, and found us during the 80's era. Sounds eerily close to soul loss and recovery to me... It also gives a whole new meaning to the words of Ram Dass, “Wherever you go, there you are” too. Think about it.
Think about your own life now, and see patterns, patterns that repeat. Then ask yourself if you might be getting a wee bit tired of the same old, same old grind with issues and ills. If you answer yes, then it's likely time for a Soul Retrieval.
Shamans do it best. It's what they do. It is their purpose. Yes, they can give psychic readings but to avail yourself of a psychic reading while the shaman works in the background bringing all the parts together is really a wonderful present for your soul. Once the work is done, it feels so much better and you can think so much better. All your body parts will work together in sync and you'll feel whole again.
Remember, your soul is eternal, ongoing and ageless. It goes through trials and tribulations through lifetimes accumulating knowledge. It is injured, it hives off its parts and gets lost; but sooner or later it comes back to the rest of your soul. It comes home. This is how it is supposed to be. You don't stay broken.
The trick here is recognizing you can do something NOW about soul loss. It's very quickly done and leaves you feeling like you finally have it all together. When was the last time you felt that way? If you can't remember, it may be time to have a Soul Retrieval done.
See you next month at Shaman's Corner.
