Selene

Welcome, I'm Selene, Editor-In-Chief of the Psychic Times Newsletter. Each month, in this column, I'll be giving you the highlight's of the issue and sharing some personal thoughts. Please read on...

Dear Readers,

Hello! Happy September to you! As I began this letter to you on August 25th, I heard the breaking news that Senator Ted Kennedy had died after his lengthy battle with brain cancer. It was one year ago to the day that he formally nominated Barack Obama as the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. It is still a shock to lose Senator Kennedy in the midst of this current battle to reform the health care system, even though we knew he was very ill, this was still his primary cause in a long and distinguished career. It is very interesting that there was a special documentary honoring him and his brothers that was due to premier in two days. They did move that up a day and it has already been broadcast as I finish up this letter to you. Two months ago as I wrote to you in this column for our July issue, Michael Jackson had just died. My Eye-Opener column for August "The Collective Experience of Grief" delved into how the loss of cultural icons that have been a part of our lives for many years affects all of us. As of this writing, Michael still has not been laid to rest and the investigation of his death continues as does the arduous task of settling his estate.

This week we are mourning the death of a politician who devoted his life to public service and helping others for nearly five decades. We are also aware of the passage of time and the fact that there is only one remaining sibling of President Kennedy still living. This truly is the end of an era. It is very sad to reflect upon the tragedy of the Kennedy family. It is ten years ago this summer that the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife and sister in law were tragically cut short when his plane crashed. I also was reminded of the similar circumstances when I first heard that John and Robert Kennedy had died. I actually was watching TV both times and saw it happen live. It is another defining moment in our history, a time that we will always remember and recall what we doing at the time we heard of this. Everyone who was alive on November 22, 1963 remembers when they heard the news or saw what happened to President John F. Kennedy. I was in the 3rd grade; I stayed home from school that day because I was sick. I was watching as they showed the President and Mrs. Kennedy ride through the streets of Dallas. I remember calling for my Mom when I saw what happened, she didn't believe me at first, we cried together as we heard the news that he had died. We were frozen with shock and sat for hours watching the black and white television. I don't remember every detail since I was just a kid at the time, it was a long time ago but the fact that I was watching and saw it happen made an impression on me that I've never forgotten. I remember being really scared after that, scared to think that something like this could happen to the most powerful man on the planet. If something so awful could happen to him, how could anyone else ever be safe? I remember that it took me a long time to stop thinking about the assassination and what happened to our President. I cried for his wife and children and for our country. It really was a traumatic loss for everyone that changed us forever, as a young child this event bothered me a lot and was on my mind for years.

I also remember when his brother Robert Kennedy was shot at the celebration of the California primary election on June 5, 1968. Again, there I was on the couch watching TV. I was up a little late for a 12 year old on a school night, my Mom was at work and I was babysitting my younger sister and brother. Yes, things were certainly different back in those days but I remember wanting to see the results of the primary election and then seeing this assassination happen right in front of me on the screen. Again I remember crying and feeling scared to death and inconsolable. Their family has been through so much tragedy, it really is sad. They truly have endured more loss than any family should have to experience. My prayers and condolences go out to the Kennedy family and to the Senator's many close friends and colleagues. Teddy lived longer than any of his brothers and was the only one to die of natural causes. I knew he was not doing well when he was noticeably not present at the funeral of his sister Eunice just two weeks ago. The services and funeral take place just a few hours from now; once again we are joined together in the collective experience of grief. Rest in Peace. We know you will be reunited with your loved ones. Blessings and prayers go out to you.

"Astrology 101-Keywords and Concepts"
By Selene

I've been interested in astrology for decades and still read and study about it on a regular basis. I feel there is so much to learn and that I will continue to be a student and seeker no matter how many years I have been at it or how much I may accomplish in my study of astrology. I consider myself an intuitive astrologer. I have a certain amount of information but I am more intuitive than techical in my interpretations, I know what I know and I allow the symbols to expand upon that with the unique information intended for the individual I am reading for. When I read for clients, I cast their charts and analyze them but really try to keep it simple and relay the information I get from their charts in language my clients can understand. The chart actually becomes a mandala to me as I tune in to it. According to Webster's online dictionary:

Mandala:

  1. a Hindu or Buddhist graphic symbol of the universe; specifically: a circle enclosing a square with a deity on each side that is used chiefly as an aid to meditation

  2. a graphic and often symbolic pattern usually in the form of a circle divided into four separate sections or bearing a multiple projection of an image

I see the natal or birth chart as a sacred imprint that illustrates our potential and life experience at the time of birth. Each person's chart is a unique illustration or map of the heavens based upon the exact date, time and place of birth. What we do with that potential and the indications in our charts is up to each individual. I ask the chart to speak to me, through the knowledge I have I can tune in to the patterns of the chart. I allow the chart to tell me what the person seeking a reading needs to know about themselves or whoever they may be asking me about. It is not my objective to impress my clients with how much I know about astrology by telling them things or going into details they don't understand. But there is usually something significant about their chart that will speak to me and I know it is what I am meant to convey. I try to keep it simple, understandable but still illuminating. That is also my objective with our monthly horoscope column.

I have been writing our monthly horoscope column since Psychic Times began in 2005. At the time when I was asked to write the column I really didn't know how to write Sun sign horoscopes so I consulted with the astrologer I had purchased some of my astrology software from and did a ton of research. I decided that it would be best to go into detail on what was happening each month that would affect everyone so I include the monthly highlights along with Sun sign forecasts in my column. I didn't want to repeat the same things over and over for each sign. Over the first year or so I experimented and developed my own style but it still is a lot to ponder each month. I process a lot of information when I write each column, studying charts and reading three astrology magazines as well as countless articles on line. I have come a long way with the Horoscope column in the four years I have been writing it and have learned a lot. I hope it is helpful to you. When you read my column or any general astrology forecast, be sure to read the information for your Sun, Moon and Rising or Ascendant sign.

This month I am presenting some basic information about astrology. I hope it will enhance the information in my Horoscope column and give you a deeper understanding when you read it. I will define the twelve signs of the Zodiac, the planets, the major aspects and the houses to help you to understand more of what is presented in the monthly horoscope column. This month is very active astrologically and I explained what is going on in the monthly highlights but it is still a lot to comprehend. These basic definitions will be in the form of keywords. Just as information is categorized on search engines according to keywords, you can figure a lot out about astrology by knowing the keywords, I also suggest the method of learning keywords in studying and learning to use tarot cards. These astrology keywords are commonly used; much of what is presented here I have derived them from my own research and experience. I have also included information on keywords from these excellent resources that I use in my ongoing study of astrology, Horoscope Guide magazine and Kepler 7 astrology software from Cosmic Patterns. I also read The Mountain Astrologer and Dell Horoscope. You can learn a lot from reading a monthly astrology magazine even if you buy it just to check your daily sun sign horoscope. Dell Horoscope and Horoscope Guide have been around for decades, although they are geared towards basic interest in astrology they have excellent astrologers on their staff these days and there is much that can be learned from their variety of articles each month. The Mountain Astrologer is intended for serious students and astrologers; it is the #1 astrology publication, very respected and endorsed by professionals. I highly recommend TMA if you really want to learn in depth about different types of astrology and cutting edge information. I subscribe to all 3 of these periodicals. The point is that the rudimentary information will help you tune in to the concepts and "get it" about how astrology can influence your life and choices. Ok let's define a few concepts to begin.

Qualities and Elements

Each of the signs of the zodiac corresponds to a quality of Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable and to an element Fire, Earth, Air and Water. These signs and elements follow each other in order, so of the 12 signs of the zodiac; 4 signs are cardinal, 4 are fixed and 4 are mutable. Each of the four qualities includes one sign of each element. The elements also follow each other in order: fire, earth, air and water. The quality of a sign is based upon when it occurs according the season.

Qualities

Cardinal: The first sign in a season is cardinal, the cardinal signs initiate change and bring new energy, a beginning, the start of a new phase, these qualities are indicative of a forceful and dynamic, take charge and move ahead type of person. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are the cardinal signs, they occur with the Equinoxes and Solstices.

Fixed: Cardinal signs are followed by the fixed signs, the sign of the zodiac that occurs in the middle of a season when the energy of the season is at its height. People born under fixed signs are determined, powerful, formidable and often stubborn. The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

Mutable: Mutable signs occur at the end of the season as the energies begin to shift into the new season. Natives of mutable signs are known to be adaptable, sharp, resourceful and flexible. The mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.

The astrological year begins with Aries the first sign of the zodiac at the spring equinox, the start of the cycle of life; Aries is a cardinal fire sign.

Elements

Fire: Fire signs are dynamic and creative; they are innovative and like to initiate change.

Aspects

I will define the four main aspects or angles that planets form to each other during transits or in our natal or birth charts. These are the aspects that I consider and may remark upon when writing the horoscopes. There are several other aspects that astrologers use but I focus on the following basic aspects to keep it simple and easier to comprehend.

Conjunction: When two or more planets are in the same sign close by or on top of each other. The New Moon is a conjunction of the Sun and Moon in the same sign. Conjunctions can have a positive or negative effect in a chart depending upon the planets involved. Keywords: Power, beginnings, conjoined, enhanced.

Square: When two or more planets form a 90 degree angle to each other. Squares are challenges and illuminate differences. The signs that share the same qualities square or oppose each other, such as the cardinal sign Aries squares cardinal signs Cancer and Capricorn. Keywords: Difficult, challenging, dynamic differences, conflict.

Trine: When two or more planets form a 120 degree to each other. Trines are positive angles that create harmonious energy. Keywords: Flow, movement through harmony, good luck, fortunate, positive.

Opposition: When two or more planets form a 180 degree angle to each other. The Sun opposes the Moon during the Full Moon. The cardinal sign Aries opposes the cardinal sign Libra, planets in opposition will be of the same quality of cardinal, fixed or mutable. Keywords: Conflict, change, challenge, opposes.

Ascendant

Our Ascendant or Rising sign rules the personality and how we express ourselves. The Ascendant is the constellation of the zodiac that is on the horizon, this changes every two hours since there are 24 hours in a day and 12 signs of the zodiac. At dawn the sign that is rising is the same as the Sun conversely at moonrise the rising sign would be the opposite of the current sign the Sun is in. In an astrological chart we define the 12 houses or segments of the chart that rules different parts of our lives and experiences. Your individual rising sign determines which house would be your first house and therefore the order of the other 11 houses. In the horoscope column I often refer to the solar house that each Sun sign is transiting that month since each person could be processing similar experiences in their own unique way. Here is a brief definition of the houses:

Houses

1st: Rules the self and personality, personal expression, physical body, personal identity, independence. Ruler: Aries.

2nd: Rules money, personal assets and resources, property, possessions. Ruler: Taurus.

3rd: Rules communication, relationships with siblings, the mind, short trips, thinking, learning, writing, reading. Ruler: Gemini.

4th: Rules home and family, early childhood (mother), nurturing, roots, personal security, beginnings and endings. Ruler: Cancer.

5th: Rules creativity, romance, children, sports, fun, personal pleasure, joy, happiness. Ruler: Leo.

11th: Rules friends, groups, humanitarian goals, innovation, science, invention, individuality, resisting authority. Ruler: Aquarius.

12th: Rules the subconscious, institutions, the law, prisons, hospitals, spirituality, sensitivity, subtle forces. Ruler: Pisces.

Astrology is a vast subject that is far more complex than it appears to be on the surface. It is a life-long pursuit if you really want to study it in-depth and come to any degree of mastery. I have to admit that I still can easily fall asleep when I read about astrology but at the same time it is compelling and fascinating. In this article we have merely scratched the surface but I do hope you have gained greater understanding of some basic knowledge about astrology. My goal was to define some essential concepts that will help you make more sense out of each month's horoscope column, understand more about your own chart and encourage you to want to learn more about astrology.

Selene: Hello Marjorie! It is so nice to meet you. We are very happy to have you working with us. Congratulations on being selected as our psychic of the month for September. How do you like working on Psychic Access so far?

Marjorie: Thank you for the warm welcome! I appreciate the warm welcome, and for being selected as the Psychic of the month! I love working here so far, it has been nice to get to know a whole new client base. I love getting to know new people and getting a chance to show them how I work. I hope I will be able to form long lasting relationships here.

Selene: That is great, I am sure you will have lots of new clients here on Psychic Access, we are so glad to have you join us. Welcome aboard! I see from your profile that you are a Cuna Indian born in Panama, did you grow up there? When did your family move to the US?

Marjorie: Wow, you really did do your research! I am from Panama, my parents met there when my father was an officer in the US Army and my mother worked in a GI bar. It's the cutest story how he didn't speak any Spanish and she didn't speak any English and they fell in love, After they got married, they had me and as a small child my parents brought me to Pittsburgh because that's where my father was from. My mother is Cuna Indian and she raised me very traditionally even though we were not in the Cuna Yala, which is where our people live. My family spent winters in the US and summers in Panama so that we would be exposed to both cultures and so that we could be exposed to the native ways. So I grew up in both places. I can't have asked for a more exciting way to grow up because my father was a mountain climber and we traveled all over the world looking for adventures.

Selene: How old were you when you first realized that you were a Medium? How did you know you had these abilities?

Marjorie: The first real memory I have of knowing I was psychic was at age five. My great grandmother had passed away and she would come and talk to me about family matters, and I began passing along messages at that point. My mother is also psychic and so I was never discouraged from discussing these matters, in fact I was encouraged.

Selene: Didn't your abilities scare you as a young child?

Marjorie: Unlike many who are blessed with this gift, I was completely supported in it. It wasn't scary to me as a child, but I will be completely honest and reveal that when I was a teen, it was very overwhelming to me and I ran from the responsibility I sensed it would bring, even shutting it off for some years before I matured enough to handle what changes it would bring to my life.

Selene: I see that you attended the Spiritualist seminary at Lily Dale, New York. What led you to studying there and what was that like?

Marjorie: Through my desire to understand and control my gifts, I was naturally drawn to other psychics and attended psychic fairs and got readings for myself. I was told I would have a "Spiritual awakening" in my late twenties, very accurately, my abilities came calling right at that time. I was seeking some sort of training or development classes when a woman told me about Lily Dale, which is a Spiritualist community in upstate New York, near Buffalo. She told me about the school called Fellowships of the Spirit, which I eventually attended. It was the greatest time of enlightenment for me. It challenged me to grow and re-discover my innate abilities. It was a warm and nurturing environment that allowed for safe exploration and development of my psychic and mediumistic abilities under a keen and watchful eye. I can't say enough good things about that school!

Selene: It sounds wonderful; I have always wanted to check it out. You are a Spiritualist Medium; can you please define that for our readers?

Marjorie: Be glad to! As a Spiritualist, I believe in the continuity of life. Meaning, that the soul is eternal and that after our soul leaves the body through the transition called death, the soul does not cease to exist. I believe that since the soul continues to exist, I can as well as any Medium can, communicate with that Spirit. My mission as a Spiritualist is to provide proof that life exists eternally and that death is an illusion. I do readings as an extension of my belief that Spirits exist and can communicate with us here. These departed loved ones can provide knowledge and guidance about moral and ethical issues. I like to consult with the Spirits on worldly and spiritual matters. All boiled down, being a Spiritualist means, your loved ones are still with you, and they want you to know that they are. They have gone on to Heaven and from there, they can see you and know about your life and want to tell you they still care, that they don't suffer and I feel honored to help them relay a message to you about how they are now. I also feel that they like to give us advice and help us, just as they would have while they were still here. It only makes sense to me to talk to the Spirits because I don't think enough people are listening anymore. It's just like anything else, what you pay attention to grows stronger. I pay attention to the Heavens and the occupants.

Selene: How long did it take to earn your degree as a Doctor of Divinity? Are you still affiliated with Lily Dale?

Marjorie: I am associated with Fellowships of the Spirit. I like to go to Lily Dale as often as I can its soooo peaceful there and I would recommend that anyone interested in Mediumship go there to experience it for themselves. It's a wonderful place filled with great people and great Spirits too haha.

Selene: When you do a session for someone do they need to ask you about the person they want to contact on the other side? How do the Spirits identify themselves to you? Do others sometimes show up instead?

Marjorie: This is a great question! When I do a session, I liken it to walking into a party where I don't know anyone but the host (which is the client). The spirits will introduce themselves to me and paint a picture of who they are and in relation to the client as well. Since I do not exist at the same level of vibration that heavenly spirits do, it's not the same as talking to someone sitting here in front of me, so I have to listen with my whole being. I will often pick up on several Spirits who are around the client. I decipher who they are and pass along what information comes through. I am normally drawn to the most outspoken Spirit and then the others come to me through that connection. For the sake of an online reading, it can take some time to get everyone identified, so I am always open to the client telling me if there is a specific Spirit they would like to communicate with and I will try to bring them through first. It doesn't always work that way because of how I "hear" them so I like to make sure I am getting the right Spirit if the client does want to hear from just one, as opposed to the one I may be more drawn to. It's about balancing my desire to honor the Spirits and the needs of the clients here. I like to make sure we are matched and communicating effectively. Not all Spirits find me easy to communicate with, just as if they were here. I enjoy being a bridge for this sort of session, it is challenging and rewarding. The Spirit People love me and I love them, that's what makes it so rewarding, that's why I do this work.

Selene: It sounds like you heal people at the same time that you are reading for them. How does that work over the phone or in chat that you are able to serve as a bridge to heaven and reach across to the other side?

Marjorie: I have learned that when communicating with the Heavens, you channel an energy that is not normally tapped in to. When I am doing this work, the Spirit people send healing energy as an extension of their love for my clients. They pass it through me so that their loved ones can be healed and have positive experiences. This healing energy comes through their words and it doesn't matter if we are on the phone, or in chat, if we are talking about the Spirits or your family life, career, love etc. They are so happy to be contacted and to be recognized that they send the healing purely as a gift. I am lucky to just get to be part of the process.

Selene: What advice do you have for people who are grieving about a lost loved one? Can the grief that the survivors feel hold a Spirit back in some way?

Marjorie: The best answer I can give to this question is no. I don't believe a Spirit can be held back in any way. The nature of Spirit is to become one with the Creator. I don't feel we as humans can interfere with the progress of a soul, I just don't think it is possible. I know there are situations that differ from this image that I paint, and I have heard things about ghosts that are "earthbound". There is a huge difference between a ghost and a Spirit. Spirits are in Heaven, They are with God. Your grief cannot harm them. If you are grieving the loss of loved one, that is normal. We all go through this. It is important to realize that Spirits do not suffer; they are in a state of eternal bliss and one-ness with our Creator. I know it can be hard to continue living when you feel so alone. Please know that you are still loved and cared for by your Spirits. This is something I have first hand knowledge of, the love that is poured through from the Heavens. It helps me feels comforted when I know someone has passed. I know that I will see them again someday and that they are in a very wonderful place.

Selene: You also offer crisis coaching, could you tell us what that process is like and how can you help someone with it?

Marjorie: Crisis coaching is what I consider Spiritual coaching that helps someone during a difficult or challenging time. Unlike most therapy sessions which usually serve to identify issues, I help people see the root of issues they are facing as well as map out hopeful alternatives based on practical Spiritual insights. I serve as a sounding board to those in all sorts of transitional phases. I help the client see opportunities to improve their life and take action to do so. It is not intended to be a quick fix, nor is it a shallow process. It is like taking a searching moral inventory that requires honesty and the desire to resolve persistent behaviors or patterns in one's life. I find Spiritual coaching to be a powerful way to empower a client's life in a very profound way. These sessions are a combination of a psychic reading and a healing that explores the client's core belief systems which may be holding them back from true progress and happiness.

Selene: That sounds very powerful and healing. What about pet readings? How do the animals communicate with you and what sort of information comes up in a pet reading?

Marjorie: I am glad you asked about pet readings. I have found that pets normally communicate through emotions. It is pretty easy for me to decipher their emotional meanings. They tend to also show me images that allow me to relay messages. I enjoy reading pets and most especially, locating lost pets because I feel it is so helpful to the families when a lost pet is brought home.

Selene: And of course, with all the thousands of readings you've done, you are also an expert on relationships. Please tell us how that information comes through for you. I understand you don't use tools, so how do you tune in to relationships?

Marjorie: Relationship readings are my favorite sort of reading because I believe that love is the reason for our existence here on earth. You are right, I don't use tools of any sort during readings, I tune in on name vibration and can feel the situation as it has been in the past, what has brought the couple to the present and how things will be in the future. I see images that tell me what is happening with a great degree of clarity. I can see the roadblocks to happiness as well as if the couple can work things out. I am given this information just as I am in a Mediumship reading, from the Spirits that are with the client. It is not reading the client's energy, not that there is anything bad or limiting about doing that, it's just that I work from a higher place with the Spirits or Angels that watch over each client. I feel that relationship readings, which can also include looking at when or if a client will enter a new relationship, are very important. There is no such thing as a silly question, but you have to be prepared for the truth. I don't like to sugarcoat details that I am given and will always share the exact messages I am given with my clients.

Selene: I'll bet you have your own story to share about romance. Will you tell us about how you met your husband? How long have you been together?

Marjorie: Sam and I have been together for going on six years. We have been married for just a little over a year. We have a pretty common start to it all, we met in a bar. I was out with girlfriends and he was shooting pool with his buddies. When I saw him, I thought he was very handsome and wanted to talk to him. The first words he ever said to me were: "Man, are you beautiful!" I had an intuitive moment when he said that to me, and it was like an overwhelming feeling that my life would never be the same. The funny thing about how we met is that when I walked in the bar that night, Sam said to his friends: "See that girl right there? That's the girl I am gonna marry." Boy was he right! I hadn't ever thought I would get married and in fact had been avoiding it. He changed everything I ever thought about love, through his dedicated and caring ways. I know true love exists because I share it everyday with this man. We are not perfect by any means, but we have so much fun and every time we need one another, we never let each other down. We have built a lovely life and home here and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Selene: When did you move to Pittsburgh? What do you like most about living there?

Marjorie: Like? HAHA, I love Pittsburgh, this city is like the story of my life! Pittsburgh is a city of second chances. This city used to be dirty and smoky and it has been renovated into being a true metropolis. This is a place where you can raise a family and Pittsburghers rarely leave here. We are passionate about our home. We have great city pride and share true devotion for our sports teams. Here, we BLEED black and gold, and I have to admit my undying love for the Steelers, it just doesn't get any better than living in the "City of Champions". I know people don't think of Pittsburgh as a spiritual place, but the history here is rich and full of great spiritual energy. There are friendly people and an abundance of natural beauty because we have three rivers and lots of green hills. If you have never been here, by all means check it out! You just may find me roaming around.

Selene: Oh, so you are a Steelers fan, well they were awesome in the Super Bowl this year! I understand your pets are like your kids, what would you like to share with us about them?

Marjorie: Well, my guys are so funny. Sam always wanted a big dog like a German Shepard or something tough like that, so of course I bought him a toy poodle for our first Christmas together ? I am allergic to most animals but poodles don't bother me. I never had a pet before this and I had no idea that this little dog would become my constant companion. He is named Kaipo, which means lover of the ocean in Hawaiian. After Kai came and we had so much love for him, we decided we needed a cat and had read about these crazy little curly haired cats called Devon Rex's. So we looked for a breeder and got a kitten that we named Elvis because he looks like black velvet. He is slick, I mean it! He is big and handsome and somewhat elusive to me. He is totally Sam's baby. These guys are all the loves of my life. I can't remember what it was like before they filled my life with snuggles and kisses! Since I can't have children of my own, I really do thank God every day for them being here.

Selene: I understand you are also an artist, please tell us more about your Spiritual art?

Marjorie: Art is an expression of life for me; I work with a lot of symbolism in my readings and my art. I like to find meaning in everything, so art is just a natural extension of what I already do through Mediumship.

Selene: Wow, it sounds like you have a lot of interests and a very busy life! What else would you like us to know about you?

Marjorie: Well, one thing I would like to share is that my Mom, Gina, is my closest and dearest friend. We are as close as a mother and daughter can be. We do everything together! Before I met Sam, I prayed to meet a partner that would love my mother as much as he would love me. Since we are so much alike, I didn't think it would work out with anyone who didn't love us both. I have been very fortunate with Sam in that he loves her just as he loves me.

Selene: Do you have other words of wisdom or advice that will help people who are going through hard times?

Marjorie: The one thing I would say is to have faith. Have faith in God, faith in yourself and faith in other people. Basically, all we really want as humans is to love and be loved. I feel that there is nothing you can't accomplish or endure if you have simple faith. It's the single most valuable tool one can apply in life. My Grandmother taught me that everyone needs someone to believe in them, and she was that person for me, hands down, she always had faith in me. I try to give that to as many people as I can, sort of like paying it forward. I have faith that people will do what they need to do, to live and thrive and be happy. We are not intended to live in pain. I believe that God wants us to experience love and peace; this is the reason I work with the Spirits, because love is always there, to get to or to get back to. Love is our reason for being here. I don't think it would be worth all the hassle if not! Love is the answer, no matter what the question is, love has to be the answer.

Selene: Amen to that, you express yourself really well! Ok, this is the part that is unscripted, is there anything else you would like to say or share?

Marjorie: I would just like to say thank you, for reading this, for taking some interest in psychic work and for considering me for this honor. I look forward to getting to know the Psychic Access clients as they wander their way into my chat room for a reading. I am so thankful for everyone, even the ones of you I have yet to meet! Getting Engaged

Language is like a coral reef. It is built of living organisms that get born, grow, age and die. Reefs of coral contain millions of single polyps. Languages contain thousands of single words in millions of possible permutations. Some words change their meaning as they grow older. Once 'gay' meant happy, not homosexual, such as the Gay Cavalier painting and also there is an old movie with that same name.

Up until around 15 years ago "engaged" meant occupied in something or promised to marry someone. Last week I was interviewing someone for a job on faculty and the word he used much more than any other word was the word "engaged". He said things like, "It's really important to engage the students", "I've always been committed to engaging with the local community" and "It's vital that a lecturer engages the audience". As you can see, the word now means getting into some kind of relationship or rapport with someone so they stay interested, a kind of diluted version of the word's earlier meanings. I started wondering why this word has taken on this meaning and is used so often now in education, business and politics. What did we use before for this idea? We used to talk about relating more than we do now. That has a different resonance. Relating is more engaged than engaged is.

The spread of the internet in general and the web too, particularly means that now we can surf people like our parents used to surf radio stations. If we come across a website, a Facebook post, a tweet or you-tube posting we like, we stay awhile and engage with it. First, though, it has to engage us; that is, attract our interest. These kinds of relationships weren't really available much before 1995 and the launch of Netscape and Windows Explorer. Before then we could relate or not, there was no kind of half-way house veiled engagement. On the contrary, engagement was a very full on way of relating. Now, with the web, newer and more casual or non-committed ways of relating became possible, and I guess more prevalent. In the meantime education was still far from being entertainment, and ways had to be found to get more students more interested in the curriculum because drop-out rates and failure rates had to be controlled. So, engagement is the new bonding, a light bonding just strong enough to keep you interested enough not to just walk out of class, or not to click off the website or simply ignore the wider community of which you're supposed to be a part.

The new engagement is quite Aquarian, very eleventh house, and with more than a little bit of Uranian energy. Actually I've found my own recent astrological clients resonate well to hearing the word "engage" to describe their eleventh house planets, their Uranus aspects and the tenancy of Aquarius in their charts. It means nothing too intense or hung up but just enough bonding to register on the conscious mind. But like all things Aquarian, it has a dark side. Engagement enables advertising to work a little better than it would otherwise. One feature of the net everyone complains about is the advertising storms it is plagued with, from sponsored sites coming up in front of the most relevant ones when you do a search through, to pop-ups you can’t kill and Trojans you can't find. An engaged web catches far too many indigestible insects. That in turn creates the 21st century’s pathology of virtual hand washing, obsessive compulsive use of many anti-viruses, firewalls, security patches and blockers to the point where free engagement with the world becomes very difficult indeed. Instead the engagement is with our own virtual protection. I think that pathology is going to rise rapidly up the ratings and there's a fortune waiting to be made by the nerd who invents a kind of glass firewall that can distinguish friendly strangers on the net from scammers and merchants – a sort of reverse password idea.

Of course we'll have to twist a harmless word to mean this new kind of guarding. Actually the word "guarding" itself might be suitable. It's been around for ages. Its meaning is quite clear and unambiguous. It's not used quite so much as it once was. It's pretty vulnerable, "guarding", therefore it is amenable to being transmuted into new meanings that takeover from the old ones.

"The Equinox Shifts and You Can Too"

An Equinox occurs later in the month. These take place twice per year, at the beginning of the spring and fall. Days and nights are of equal length. Again and again, my guides said something must be said about this.

How very, very important it is to note these transits and take note. Acknowledge the shift, notice and celebrate the obvious seasonal change. The benefits are enormous. If you do this, take just a moment to say, "Aha, the Equinox is shifting us, me, it, them, etc." Life becomes eased. It doesn't get smoother, but it's like taking off the edges of day to day events we feel uneasy about, the hard spots.

A side benefit is that just a small ceremony, also helps you sense when fear is coming up. Fear manifests most readily when we feel we don't know something we should, or are unprepared. But, using the time of an Equinox to initiate change or even notice the shifts of Mother Earth and the cosmos at that time, has far reaching benefits.

If one stops to just light a candle or say, "today this shift occurs and I honor that", then, it may be found that during the next while, one feels more in control of one's life. One may notice that the self is ready for approaching life events no matter what comes. Note shifts of Earth and cosmos and gain personal control, but right control. Perception heightens, awareness is gained. This is because we cooperate with the universe. It, in turn, includes us and we feel partnered. It is a very co-creative, cozy and safe feeling.

The Earth rotates on its axis, a new season approaches. The coming season says shift things because you must, because you can. Shift attitude, shift perspective, just note shift. Mother Earth, planets, cosmos shift, and so does our energy shift. We start to prepare for fall or spring wherever one lives with expected shift and change.

Change isn't something most of us take to readily. Most avoid change, thinking it safer to require sameness; comforting, comforting sameness. No change. No fuss, no bother, just things stay the same. Life also stagnates like that and the cosmos does not stagnate. Humans should not either. Dance with life and shift, and you understand fear is simply not being in tune. Tune in and fear takes a back seat.

Change and shift can be considered in one breath or idea. Perceive the change and it comes. It comes anyway but it does help immensely to be partner to the shift. Twice per year we are given this opportunity to do it much easier and faster than at other times. Do take advantage of the fall or Spring Equinoxes to help yourself to shift.

Now…

It's as if we say, okay bring on the seasons, but don't ask me to shift my mind, perspective, or life. Unfortunately we don't have prerogative in what shifts in us. Or DO we? Yes, somewhat. We can go with the flow or we can stay fixed. When we stay fixed, we become inflexible and brittle. We break. Bodies break, minds break. It takes time but make no mistake, refusal to go with the flow or shifts does take its toll and early on. Sooner than you may think too. There is a minor uneasiness around the time of the Equinox when we are being really stubborn, inflexible or obsessive in what we demand our lives give us. Wake up and shift! All the ancients knew this and they noted the shift in seasons with marked and many times excessive celebrations and rituals. We only need do something minor, just to touch base with the cosmos etc. Think of it as a handshake of us with universe.

We expect seasons to shift, expect things to move, but NOT US. Not unless we say so. If the seasons didn't shift, panic would set in. Something, some big kahuna in the sky decided to fix things and now we are at the mercy of the cosmos! Unfair! The cosmos shifts, the Mother Earth shifts, but we don't have to unless we wish to. That’s splendid reasoning, for silly fools. I'm being rather facetious here but it's not too far from the truth for many of us stodgy creatures of habit is it?

Cosmic dragons being what they are; delight in picking on those of us who decide we know better, we can expect cosmic changes, Earth seasonal changes, but it doesn't apply to us. We are special. We expect what we expect when we expect it. Woe to being told we must shift. And the universe and the dragons laugh. Oh how they laugh. They also grin and announce your fears are crunchy and yummy with ketchup! It is true.

Okay so you're not pagan. Me neither. I'm shaman. But, what would I do if it were me, and I knew nothing about rituals or ceremony? If I had a computer near me, I'd look up Equinoxes; maybe do a search on how the old ones did rituals. Not for copying their ways, but for knowledge that they did it. They recognized the power of the Equinoxes. Did they know something we do not? Perhaps… Must we remain unaware? Not in this day and age.

Get a candle, a small one will do, votive, any color, or one hanging around the house. Write a poem, or sing a song to yourself. Do you need a crowd gathered to watch? No, it can be a party of one. What do you say? How about "today is the Equinox and shift is here. I shift, as does the cosmos". Light your small candle, or light some incense if you please. No candle? Fine, just say it is here and smile and feel how good it feels to co-partner with creation and the cosmos! If you have to wait until the ingredients are right or all the materials are gathered and perfect, the Equinox will have passed! Don't go there or not there. If you do, then you have to wait 6 more months till the cosmos celebrates this shift again. Wasted time and wasted energy. Recognize that although ceremony and 'doing things just right' is great, it speaks more of your level of self esteem than the ability to work with the universe. Don't wait, just do. As the shamans teach, intent is the key. In fact, it's everything!

The idea is to acknowledge the shift and gift of the Equinoxes and say so, even if it's to yours truly. It takes less than 5 minutes. You can do it in your jammies, or in your bathrobe or naked sitting on your bed, or fully clothed holding your children's hands in a circle. Kids love this stuff.

Take in the good energy of the moment. Give yourself a quantum self-hug, and know you've made a really good shift in how you perceive your own power and your ability to work with the cosmos in tandem.

Have fun later this month and when you do your little 'hiya to the cosmos' remember Salome will be doing the same thing. So will a lot of others as well. Wonderful time for bringing in grace and delight into something that until now you were putting off for 'someday'. Don't do that. 3 weeks and it's time, allow the moment and feel the shift in both you and the cosmos.

One last thing: smile when you have a fear come up and remember this article. Yes it does work to ease fears. Keep those fear dragons at bay and observe the Equinox later this month, even if only briefly! It is your right.

See you next month at Shaman's Corner.

Salome
