Selene
Welcome, I'm Selene, Editor-In-Chief of the Psychic Times Newsletter. Each month, in this column, I'll be giving you the highlight's of
the issue and sharing some personal thoughts. Please read on...
Dear Readers,
Hello! Happy November to you! I hope you had a Happy Halloween and have wonderful plans to spend quality time with those who mean the most to you this month. As we reach the end of the year, we feel compelled to take care of finishing projects and details as we prepare for the busy holiday season ahead. Take time to get lots of rest as the days grow shorter, the daily pace is accelerating now and you will handle things best by taking excellent care of yourself.
Saturn moved from Virgo to Libra right before the end of last month and we are all in the process of adjusting to these new energies. It has been 29 years since the planet of lessons, structure and limitation has visited gentle, balanced, Venus ruled Libra. You can feel the shift of focus from work and health issues to relationships and partnership concerns. The good news is that this is a great time to find a mate or partner, or to make a deeper connection or commitment with someone you are already involved with. During Saturn in Libra, we will learn more about ourselves through our interactions with others. The next three years or so will be a social time when we will learn much through our personal interactions with others and seek to raise our self esteem. Libra is all about love and true love begins with loving oneself so expect to do some soul searching and get on track to make your life become more of what you would really like it to be. You'll want to beautify your home and surroundings so that you feel comfortable and at ease in your own space. This is a good time to clean out your closet and get rid of what you no longer find appealing or feel relates to who you are now. Let go of past entanglements and get emotionally clear for best results now. I recently received a letter from one of our readers I would like to answer here to share with you:
Dear Editor,
I am wondering what your opinion is about used clothes. I was told by a psychic I respect very much that I should burn my old clothing and only buy new clothing and to do this often. I find this very expensive.
Ginevra
Dear Ginevra,
Thanks for contacting me with your interesting question; I've selected your letter to share this with our readers since I feel it is a valid concern that can benefit others to know about too. Yes, clothes would hold on to energy and if you have been through very sad times or a difficult relationship wearing the clothing that you associate with what happened while you were wearing it, then yes it could have a negative impact on you. For example if it was something you wore when you had a violent or very difficult encounter with someone, I would recommend burning it to release the energy of trauma that may have been held in the fabrics. Keeping these items in your closet or drawers could possibly infuse your other clothes with those negative energies. But, in my opinion, to discard the items through burning them is really only necessary in severe situations. For example, if you went through a breakup and fights wearing certain clothes, the energy could linger but it depends on the situation. If it was his favorite sweater of yours and you have memories of being with him wearing it that make you feel sad when you wear it or see it, then yes I feel it would be helpful to burn it since that would symbolize that you are truly releasing the residual energy that is still held in the article of clothing due to the emotions you felt while wearing it.
Since this was advised by a psychic you respect and have found to be accurate, I would assume that they would have a valid reason to advise you to take this action. However, in most cases the action of washing or dry cleaning the clothing should be enough to cleanse it of energy accumulated during wearing the clothes well enough to keep them clear of harsh vibrations. Personally, I do not shop at second hand stores or thrift shops since I feel overwhelmed by the energy contained in the pre-owned and pre-worn clothes. Just walking into a thrift shop sometimes hits me quite hard but that could be due to the fact that the items there have been owned and worn by hundreds or thousands of people.
I once went through a box of clothes I had worn while working at an office for several years. I had not been very happy in my life during that time. I had packed these work clothes up when I left that position and got them out when I needed clothes for another job I started later. Even though everything had been clean when I packed them up, I felt sick to my stomach when I opened the box and got those clothes out. Just looking at them brought back a lot of memories of being unhappy at my job and in my marriage at that time. I was divorced and much happier in my life when I looked at these clothes again but the way I felt when I opened up the box made me choose to donate them to charity instead of hanging them back up in my closet. I was amazed that they still made me feel so much emotion after a couple of years had passed so this is a valid concern that your advisor brought up; but you need to personally discern how you really feel about these items of yours.
My advice is to go through your clothes when they are all clean and hold each item. If you have strong negative memories or grief associated with any particular item then burning it would release that energy. If you simply feel uncomfortable and like it does not suit you any longer then it can be donated or given away. If you still feel like the clothing is something you want and don't feel particularly uncomfortable when you touch it then hang the freshly washed item up outdoors for a few hours and let the sun and wind clear it. You can also smudge the clothes with sage to remove energies either before or after you wash them. There are scented fabric softeners and sprays that can also help to clear the items as well.
Yes, this is rather expensive as a method to rid yourself of negative energies and I do not feel it is necessary to routinely burn your clothes unless there are extenuating circumstances such as feeling sad when wearing something because it reminds you of someone. If it is a white or very light colored item, using old fashioned bluing when laundering it can also really help to clear it. Use your own judgment and intuition for best results here. If you feel ok wearing it when it is clean ok, if you feel overwhelmed with sadness or memories it may be in your best interest to let it go. Burning an item does get rid of the emotional charge attached to it but I do not feel you need to burn everything unless you have really been depressed or frightened when wearing the clothes.
Of course when we make a big change such as losing weight or moving a long distance; it can be helpful to just get rid of old clothes and start over. I hope this helps you and clarifies the situation for you.

Traditionally this is the season to be jolly as we navigate towards the end of the year, the holiday festivities begin in the U.S. this month with Thanksgiving which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving in its present form as a family holiday and gathering time has been observed in the United States since 1863 but was not recognized as a Federal holiday until 1941. As children we studied the history of this traditional celebration which began here when the Native Americans or indigenous people helped the English settlers at Plymouth, MA to survive a harsh winter, the feast they shared together was symbolic of the unity they felt as diverse human beings reaching out to each other in difficult times. We dressed up as Pilgrims and Indians as school children to reenact this peaceful celebration between the natives and the settlers as we learned about our history and the traditions of the past. Thanksgiving is a symbolic harvest festival observed in many cultures during the fall months before winter begins, traditionally it was a time of gathering together with family and friends to give thanks for the abundance of this year's bounty from the earth. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October.
This has been a year of change for everyone with the current economic conditions and the state of the world. As we approach 2010 consumer confidence has dropped and the stock market continues to fluctuate even though it recently touched the highest point it has reached since it plummeted so severely a year ago. We feel uncertain about the future and are trying to cope with what it may bring to us. It is similar in some ways to how we felt collectively at the turn of the century, it is hard to believe that was only ten years ago, so much has happened since then that it feels much longer even though it went by in the blink of an eye. Interesting that the market is now right around where it was in 1999…
It is confusing that we are told the recession is ending when so many people are struggling to meet their basic expenses and pay their bills. Property values are still declining and foreclosures continue to climb as credit tightens. It isn't easy to remain optimistic these days. The news is still dismal and rather frightening with the reports of high unemployment but at the same time, we are told that things are turning around and will soon be back to normal, whatever normal is these days… We just have to have faith and try to remain hopeful that everything will work out for our highest good.
This is the time of year for reflection on what has transpired so far, what to plan for and expect in the New Year and most of all, for being grateful for what we do have. I consulted the Merriam Webster dictionary online to clarify what Thanksgiving means. I've also included definitions of some other terms to illustrate the underlying spiritual concepts that are actually being recognized by this holiday which is currently symbolized by taking time off to gather with family while cooking and eating a big turkey dinner and watching football games:
Thanksgiving: the art of giving thanks; a prayer expressing gratitude: a public acknowledgement or celebration of divine goodness.
Thanks: kindly or grateful thoughts; an expression of gratitude.
Gratitude: The state of being grateful; thankful.
Abundance: an ample quantity, affluence, wealth, relative degree of plentiness; the opposite of scarcity.
Prosperity: the condition of being thriving, especially economic well being.
How do we celebrate a holiday of abundance when we are experiencing lack? It seems like many people's problems are overwhelming now and no one is immune to the epidemic of difficulty that is affecting each of us these days on some level. Put your attention on what you want to grow in your life rather than on what you want to eliminate. Be grateful and give thanks for what you do have rather than focusing on what you don't have or what is wrong. Simple? Yes, but to some degree these concepts really do work even though I don't believe that simple positive thinking directly brings the results we most desire. It is more about an orchestration of our thoughts to put attention on planning for the future to attain what we desire. I have always liked the concept of keeping an abundance journal and writing down five things we are grateful for each day as suggested by Sarah Ban Breathnach in her classic book, "Simple Abundance". The Law of Attraction as taught by Esther and Jerry Hicks is based on the teachings channeled from a group of non-physical entities called Abraham, they suggest envisioning what we want and holding that vision and belief through the process of seeing our desired outcome take physical form. Thanksgiving Day is a reminder to count your blessings, not your problems.
How do we work the attitude of gratitude into our lives when times are tough? Even if things are basically ok for you personally right now, everyone has experienced loss and changes in the past few years. We can definitely feel the difference of being in a new century, enough time has passed that there is a significant line of demarcation. Soon we will enter the second decade of this new century, no doubt life will speed up even more and so will the complexity of lessons and issues we encounter. Life is not getting simpler even though we are trying to cut back and hunker down to get by on what we still have during this time of rapid change. It feels like a roller coaster ride. The technology has certainly progressed in this first decade of the 21st century and things will never be the same. How do we feel safe and secure when the economic structure of the planet is shifting along with the climate and weather? How can we ignore what is going on and pretend that things are the same as they have always been?
We really can't, so we turn to those methods that have helped us in the past when we needed help in dealing with difficult times. They may not seem to work as well as they once did even though it is comforting to have something to turn to and you have to start somewhere. It is hard to stay positive and blindly recite affirmations when all around you people are going through hardship. There are times when it is appropriate to feel a little depressed, or even to allow yourself to grieve. No one is happy all the time or completely satisfied. The trick is to not stay stuck and be willing to pivot when the Universe sends you a curve ball. Scarcity can be reality but when you remain open to receiving the essence of what you desire instead of being attached to the exact form you expect it to take, then you may be surprised to find that you do indeed get what you need.
In order to know what you want, first you need to know what you do not want. It is hard to understand why we would attract certain situations to our lives through our thoughts. Although thinking positively is a helpful habit it may not necessarily be a natural one since life is full of lessons and phases in which we are meant to learn more through facing adversity. Otherwise why would we go through the human experience? Well we learn more in a body than we do as pure spirit without a body and that is why our souls choose to incarnate as we experience different lifetimes. Think about what you have experienced in this lifetime and all the different people you have already been through the various stages of your life: infant, baby, toddler, pre-school, elementary school, pre-teen, teenager; young adult and so on through each decade of life into your early, middle and later adult years. Reflect upon how different you have been in each phase of your life and the experiences you've had. What you wanted as a child is different from what you want now but the essence of what you need to survive is relatively the same. You want to be safe, secure, healthy, loved and have your material and physical needs met. You may think about the past with nostalgia or regret but each of us knows we can't go back. You cannot change what has already occurred in your life but you can change how you think or feel about it. And this quality is what allows us to move on, to heal, and to create what we need in each phase of our lives.
When you are born, you are dependent on others, totally. You are new to this lifetime's experience and to the body you have. Your body is still developing and growing and as your body grows so does your intellect and understanding of what your life is about. You learn to communicate; you learn to go from being a spirit in your mother's space to growing a body within her body and on to becoming a spirit in your own physical body. You learn about love and trust whether it exists in your life or is lacking. You learn how you feel when your basic needs are met and how it feels when you are not cared for. Sometime between the first birthday and the second one, babies learn the word "mine". It changes their perspective entirely, the notion that something is yours; that it belongs just to you and no one else is a key concept towards creating abundance in your life later. The child learns to be more independent as they grow and gain more control over their bodies and environment, and they are drawn to that autonomy. They also learn how to manifest what they want by studying the behavior of those around them. Early on a child will make it known if they want something or not, if they like something or not, if they are willing to be patient to receive what they want or if they get better results by throwing a tantrum or crying. Hopefully at this stage they also learn that you don't always get what you want or get your own way but you can still have what you need and be satisfied with what you receive. This is the true start of developing a prosperity consciousness.
Prosperity consciousness is a so called "new age" term that has to do with cultivating thought processes and patterns that open your mind to the opportunities available to experience flow and abundance. What we put our attention on grows so it is very important to be careful what you ask for as you just may manifest it. There are thousands of books and teachings that are based on basic concepts that have been taught for decades but have been repackaged over and over again. People use affirmations, prayers, spells, mantras, tithing to charity, working with feng shui principles, reading channeled material etc. etc. to attract what they desire and change conditions in their lives. Most of these modern teachings are based on classic ideas and books that were published long ago.
The New Thought movement first gained popularity over 100 years ago. Francis Scovel Shinn wrote "The Game of Life and How to Play It" in 1925, this classic work focused on positive thought and affirmations as tools to help you overcome adversity and manifest what you need to thrive rather than just survive. Ernest Holmes wrote "The Science of Mind" in 1926 and based his Religious Science church teaching principles of prosperity and thought based manifestation which is still going strong and helping to influence people's lives to this day. "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill was published in 1937, it is one of the best-selling books of all time that has continued to influence many authors and teachers. There have been so many teachers who have shared these basic principles with us. Catherine Ponder wrote "The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity" in 1962 followed by several other books including the best selling "Open Your Mind to Prosperity" in 1971. Louise Hay wrote "How to Heal Your Life" in 1984 and created an empire with her publishing company, Hay House, based on the principles she learned as a Religious Science practitioner. She has brought the work of hundreds of authors teaching new thought prosperity and healing techniques to public consciousness with the books she has published and the seminars she has produced. Deepak Chopra wrote "Creating Affluence" in 1993, in this short volume he explores prosperity from the perspective of quantum physics, simply listening to his tape or cd of this book on a daily basis will help you create a prosperity consciousness.
It is time to get back to basics in our thoughts and how we create for ourselves. Most of us are learning to downsize and cut our expenses to get by on less when times are tough, we eliminate what we don't need to spend money on or what no longer works for us. Our lives are changing but we remain successful if we shift and adapt to the changes rather than trying to resist them. The one thing that is constant in our lives is change just as the seasons change and each year brings new energies and challenges. Challenges are often opportunities for growth disguised as loss, how we respond to loss and change can determine much about our future and what the future brings to us. Whatever you do during this holiday season, remember to give Thanks for all that you have and take the time to reflect on your good fortune instead of what you lack or have lost this year. Let's remember to practice the concepts of gratitude and sharing each and every day, you just may find it increases your blessings and brings more positive energy into your life.

Michelle Caporale has been chosen as our psychic of the month for November. She joined us on Psychic Access this past summer and we are so happy to have her on board. From the first Hello, you just know Michelle is the real deal! You can feel her honesty and the integrity in her voice, there is an energetic connection you can sense right away. She is a down to earth, intelligent, honest, authentic, kind & compassionate reader; but there is no sugar coating. To Michelle, it's not about whether you like her or not, it is about sharing the truth with you, as a direct intuitive she is shown what it is you need to know about, her guides impart the truth of your situation to her, her energy is very strong and easy to connect to. There is an intense vibration to her communication where you may actually feel you have been physically touched by her even though you are not face to face. Join me here in getting to know Michelle:
Selene: Hello Michelle! It is so nice to meet you, thanks for taking the time for this interview with us here at Psychic Times. Congratulations on being chosen our Psychic of the Month for November! You are known for your ability to make a quick connection when someone contacts you, how do you tune in so quickly?
Michelle: I wish I knew. LOL, I just automatically start to hear and feel what needs to be said in each reading.
Selene: I know you have a very busy private practice and have lots of loyal clients. We are honored that you have joined us. What drew you to Psychic Access and how do you like working here so far?
Michelle: The ethics of the site. I found Psychic Access through a friend who suggested I apply since he knew I would like it. Then coincidentally enough I already knew Miss Peg when she contacted me for an interview. I also knew a few of the other readers so I felt like I belonged. Most of all I like it that the site is a no scam zone. People sometimes think of psychics as gypsies who falsely advertise, I am really against that and want nothing to do with people who scare clients to get them to do things and spend more money. I like everything on the up and up and this seems like an ethical and logical place to be, so here I am. I like honesty and I like it that Psychic Access tests and screens all their applicants. A lot of sites don't test at all and I feel that is wrong. Ethically I resonate with how Psychic Access is run, it is very professional.
Selene: How did you find out you were a Medium? Did you pursue some sort of formal study to develop your Mediumship further?
Michelle: I never had an official title until I attended the College of Metaphysical Studies in Clearwater, FL. My Professor was able to classify me as such after telling him the connections I had made by hearing and seeing my loved ones and friend's loved one's whom had passed away. That is when I decided to pursue a degree in the Metaphysical field.
Selene: What else have you studied that helped you develop your talents? Please tell us about the programs you completed at the College of Metaphysical Studies and how that has helped you with your work.
Michelle: I graduated with two degrees; "Intuitive Practitioner and Spirit Medium". The courses were geared to help me understand how to divine information and better my own skills by tempering my experiences. I also earned the degree of "Reiki Master". The classes were well structured as well as enjoyable. I gained much knowledge as well as confidence in my abilities. I also was able to have the experience of meeting wonderful people.
Selene: I understand you have a mentor who was a major influence in your development. Would you please tell us about your mentor and how that experience has helped you to teach and mentor others?
Michelle: My mentor was Dr. Paul Danielle who has since passed away. He was the founder of the school that is accredited in the state of Florida. Paul taught me self examination, humility and confidence. He helped me to understand the principles, laws and ethics of being an Intuitive Practitioner. He gave me the confidence to be able to teach others.
Selene: What was your motivation for taking these classes? When you decided to pursue this education yourself, was it your objective to become a professional psychic and medium?
Michelle: My motivation was my curiosity and how I could better understand myself. Since these things happened during my formative years, eleven and older, it was something I had felt I needed to explore as I felt called to assist others as I grew to help myself. It was my sincere desire to take this on professionally but to do so with a certification that would give me not only the qualification but the opportunity to show myself and others that I was committed to this field. It is like earning any other degree, it holds water.
Selene: Do you use tarot or other tools to assist with your readings?
Michelle: No, I am what would be considered a "Cold Reader". I hear, see and feel what I am to translate to each individual. I am however a trained Tarot Reader. I will offer Tarot Readings if asked.
Selene: Your approach with clients is very direct, I am sure a lot of people consult you about relationship issues. How can a reading with you help someone who is concerned about a relationship? No doubt that hearing the truth can really assist someone who is in denial or confused about their situation. Unfortunately, many people just want to hear what they want to hear. How do you deal with clients who are stuck and get them to listen to you?
Michelle: Great question. The way I read is with honesty as I hear, see and feel it. I am kind, yet to the point. I will advise from my heart as best as I can. It is almost impossible to help someone not be stuck unless they choose otherwise. I have had enough life experience and heartache myself to be compassionate as to understand each individual's situation. I do what I can with love but the bottom line is; we all have our paths to walk. I am just the conduit that is willing to help. If someone is stuck, I will offer as much help as I can. The rest is up to them.
Selene: Do you offer Mediumship readings on Psychic Access? Does this connection always just come through for you with the person they are seeking to communicate with?
Michelle: Yes I do. Nine out of Ten times someone will come through. I advise people to be open as sometimes you may hear from Aunt Mable instead of Uncle Jack. There is always a message. Sometimes I have no control over who comes through. Other times the request to speak to someone in particular is granted. It is such a wonderfully powerful experience for me.
Selene: You have successfully worked with law enforcement agencies on cold cases. Is this something you volunteered for or how did they know to contact you? How do you get this information? It is fascinating and so impressive; we would love to hear more about this aspect of your work.
Michelle: I have worked with NY's finest. They came to me through a friend. I have also worked with other PD's. The information comes through like it would with any other way to read. It is normally regarding Cold Cases. If I can be of help, it is my honor.
Selene: So are you good at helping people find lost objects? Do you have any interesting stories to share about that?
Michelle: No, that is not my specialty. I have been successful in the past with objects, not many though. It is more to help find missing persons. That is where I have excelled and assisted the Police.
Selene: You also read objects using psychometry and can read photographs. How does that work and what would you like to share about those methods? Is it something you can learn how to do?
Michelle: You can learn psychometry; it is a skill that must be practiced. It is the feelings and images that you get from looking at or touching something or seeing someone that you focus in on. You allow yourself to hear, feel and understand. Then you can relay what information you get.
Selene: What advice or guidance do you offer to people who want to develop their own intuitive abilities?
Michelle: Everyone has intuition already. However, I would advise grounding skills, meditation and the right study books. It is also advisable to involve yourself in studies where you can attend in person as I did. Remember to trust that little voice, it is there for a purpose.
Selene: Many people are going through serious problems and hard times these days. How can you help them to cope? What guidance and support can you offer to clients who feel overwhelmed with problems in their lives?
Michelle: Readings are meant to guide not instruct. You do so with kindness and integrity. A calming voice and being able to give as much detail as possible will help greatly. That is what is important to me.
Selene: Please tell us more about your experiences with paranormal investigations. Do you work with a group or association?
Michelle: I work with a small group of people who enjoy doing investigative work. We have found some interesting homes that we were able to visit. Some have showed many signs of paranormal activity. I have had the opportunity to experience people who have not crossed over and then assisted them in these homes. The folks are great and we all connect well.
Selene: You also work at Psychic Fairs, how often do you do them and where? What do you like about appearing at fairs and expos?
Michelle: I love the expos and fairs because you get to meet really cool people. I have done several in the past and continue to do them when asked. It is always the right season to do a fair. We like to do them locally for fund raising which I enjoy very much. I maintained an office in the past and used to offer readings in my home too. Currently the fairs and expos are the primary way to see me in person, although I still do the occasional session in a local coffee house. Most of the time I do my work over the phone, and I am very happy to be able to work from home.
Selene: I see you are also an artist, please tell us more about your painting and other hobbies.
Michelle: Art was my first love. I had planned on Fashion Designing. I still draw to this day, it is relaxing. I also enjoy photography and right now I am studying Psychology.
Selene: You live in Florida, how long have you been there? Where are you from originally? If you could live anywhere, where would you like that to be?
Michelle: I have been in Florida way too long, lol. I am from NJ and wish to go back, now. After my son finishes college, I will probably move back to New Jersey at that time. I feel ready to make a change. My kids are on their own now and I am so proud of them. I still live in the same house they were raised in; we have been in this house for 14 years.
Selene: Please tell us more about your family. Do your children share your gifts?
Michelle: I have two beautiful adult children who share the same gifts but do not practice. My daughter has just finished her Associate of Arts in Writing and my son is attending his sophomore year studying Forensic Psychology at a State University. They are my two favorite people. We are very close and see each other often. We have two dogs that are also family members; each of them is intuitive in their own way as well.
Selene: And now for one of my favorite parts of the interview, this question is unscripted. What else would you like us to know about you or is there some insight you would like to share with us?
Michelle: I am human too. I always tell clients that I am not God. I will always be honest as I hear things and translate. I have feelings, emotions and am very sensitive. I think sometimes people expect that when they hear "Psychic" they anticipate various things. We are all psychic in some sense. We are all human. I share what I am shown and each person I help makes their own choices about what to do with the information I impart to them.
Selene: I know many of our readers will want to have a session with you after reading this interview. Is there anything you recommend that your clients do to prepare for their reading with you? Most importantly, when can they find you on Psychic Access?
Michelle: Please take notes! I get a lot of information when I read, but I do not retain it, so write it down. Please allow the predictions time to pass. Please try to know your relatives. When they come through it helps to know who is who. Be open and be ready, when we make our connection the information just flows and I am here to help you. I have scheduled hours posted and I will be logged on for additional time as often as possible.
Selene: Thank you so much Michelle. It has been great getting to know you! I am sure you will be hearing from many new clients after this interesting interview.
Michelle's talents came to her naturally and she has worked hard to develop her gifts further. This is her life's work and she loves to share her insight and information with her clients to help them make wise choices that support their best interests. She devotes her time and attention to her clients, this is the only work that she does and she takes her chosen career very seriously. Look for her on Psychic Access to experience an exceptional reading that will make you feel that you have indeed found the answers you were looking for.

All the apes, also hyenas, kookaburras and parrots laugh. Fish, cats and reptiles don't. I'm not sure about horses, dolphins or dogs. So is laughter something we pick up as we evolve to the ape stage then lose again as we evolve into puritan saints?
Any culture that has language has a word for laughter and all the major languages have a word for humor. Humor can make you smile. You don't have to laugh for it to be humor.
There is a saying that a sense of humor is essential in the Work (of self development and spiritual evolution). If we're all here to evolve, like it or not at the ego level, then we are all in the Work. Why do we all need a sense of humor?
It seems likely that we all need humor because it makes bad things more bearable. It reduces stress levels. It makes both ourselves and our listeners feel better to share a joke, a quip or a wisecrack. Humorists are no better morally than the rest of us, sometimes they are worse. Like the Fool in medieval times, the same one shown in position zero on the Tarot, a person who is a source of humor is allowed some artistic license that we don't allow others, even artists. That could be why we want to jail Roman Polanski for sex with a minor but we don't want to jail Woody Allen for it. I'm talking here about what we feel like doing, not what the letter of the law requires.
These days we have political correctness. This means you can only get away with humor about race, gender or disability if you yourself are an obvious victim of it. Otherwise you're suspected of perpetrating it. The field of humor has accordingly shrunk in the last two decades. What has happened to stress in that time period?
Actually it's probably harder to be funny these days than it was before multi channel TV and You Tube. Almost everything has been seen or said already. Dogs sliding down home yard pool slides; little pandas sneezing so loud that mummy panda puts up her hands; sheep in luminous coats – these make us laugh now. When did you last hear a really good joke about climate change? Not even from Leno or Letterman.
Also, humor can be very bounded by geography and culture. Imagine trying to share your pleasure at an episode of your favorite US sitcom with a Brit or Chinese person who has never seen the series once. Maybe pictorial jokes are best for stress reduction after all.
Humor is to Mercury as caring is to Venus. When life has become too harsh, too frustrating, too cruel or too indifferent for someone, their empathy goes first, then their responsiveness to their own feelings and then the capacity to feel much of anything. Humor however remains and is the last link between life's victims and common humanity. Young mothers fight passionately for their kids but don't laugh too much. Old cynics distrust passion but can supply at least a few grins, even a good laugh occasionally. Every home should have one.

"Illusions Of Fear"
My goodness doesn't it seem like the world around us is just 'crazy nuts' right now? Does it seem as if things make no sense much of the time. I'm referring to people's actions, the news on the TV. We have channeled messages from entities or groups we've joined show up in our emails. They always live on planet, "Who Knows Where and Why Should You Care." Really, why should you know or care?
If the message seems off, it is. Learn to trust what you feel, what you know. Ever notice these things happen somewhere else to someone else; but we seem to not have so much of this stuff going on around us in our immediate vicinity? A good analogy is turning on the local news after a long day and finding out there was a shooting 3 blocks from where you work. Until you heard about it, it didn't really affect you, but now... oh my you're feeling sick and uneasy. Immediately on cue, you're upset. I call it 'Empath by proxy'.
I can hear some people object and say oh yes, but you know darned well, we are all one Salome. Well in many ways yes that is true, but... it is not written in stone we must let everything affect us. If that were the law or rule of the cosmos then everyone would be hurt, sick, fearful, crazy, whole, completely together and/or not having a clue as to what is going on. Can you be all these things at once? Of course not. You're not supposed to have to be all these things and buy into all these energies. Why? Because if you do then you can't attend to what it is you're supposed to be doing with YOU and YOUR LIFE.
Remember the movie "The Lion King" where Mustafa comes to Simba and says, "REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE!" Well, take a cue and a clue. Remember who YOU ARE!
The energies of the world and the planets are moving around pretty furiously and erratically at the moment. This will continue for quite some time. Says who? It may seem it's affecting everyone and everything. If you find yourself agreeing with it's affecting everyone and everything, think on that for moment and question it. I guarantee you there is a soldier fighting a war somewhere or a small child working with his family in the fields to provide sustenance that doesn't even come close to living this paradigm.
Let’s pretend that we haven't heard of all the shifting and screwy things going on around the world. Just for a moment pretend you can't access your TV, computer, phone or radio. In fact, if you really want to have some real fun and a real wake up call, try not using any of these electronic devices for a week and I promise you that your fear will start to ease up and subside.
Does that also mean the electronics are causing the problem? Well, no. It means when you use these appliances you must understand they are only the medium delivering the messages. They are not inherently in and of themselves bad or such. The messages they deliver can wreak havoc on our systems, or they can just deliver information that we choose to accept or not. They are tools. It is up to us to govern how messages and these tools will affect us. Put another way, you are responsible for what you allow to affect you, your body, your heart and your mind. Only you...
Some people are just fear driven individuals. It's been so very long since they've known who they are and what they stand for they have completely forgotten how it is to run their own show. Some people are sick (or so they think), they are delicate or not able to decide for themselves. Some are just plain lazy. It's much easier to let someone else tell you how to run your show (or so they think). In my neck of the woods we call that copping out. Shamans call it giving up your power to someone else. There are people who limp through life, live it halfway.
The electronic media is here to stay. Learn to use it but don't let the messages it delivers run you or your body, mind, heart and soul. Things are going to get even more technical, it's a lifestyle that is here to stay. Sweet progress. Human and non-human fear mongers (Salome defines these non-human fear mongers as those who think they don't belong here or are helping humanity to rise above in some way).
Please oh please, please spare me! The real genuine advanced beings are just watching to see how long it will take for humanity as a whole to wake up! They've used advanced technology for years and one thing they do know is part of our learning is to separate the medium from the message. They know we'll get it. They also know much of what we worry about is sapping our energy, not conducive to fully operational human potential. They also know when people finally get 'it' and tire of fear giving them fits for nothing then they will gladly take responsibility and run their own show.
That's also when they will let you into the "Club of True Knowing", Then you'll know with surety we humans have much more to look forward to than to fear.
You must learn to detach your attention and energy properly, when needed. The fear many messages engender is not real. Fear is still used to protect you when you are in danger, the real stuff, real danger. Not messages of do this, do that because someone else says so.
Reach out to the world in love and compassion but for crying out loud, don't drain your energy attempting to help someone who could help themselves. Save your energy, you need it to work and play and love. If you are drained and feeling empty, pull back, assess just where your energy is going and why. Take a breather and get back in touch with you. Its lots easier than you think. Try it, you'll find you have a lot of self-healing ability that is inherent within you.
Now, I am going to let you in on a big, big, big secret that is so obvious the simplicity of it may astound you when you clearly understand it. When in need, you will be given what you need to survive, it will come. If you are in real danger, then your 'right attention' will kick in and help you know what to do.
If you waste your energy on illusions and messages of fear, or conspiracy, thinking they are real, you will deprive your true self of amazing potential. Your creativity will go kaput, your mind will play tricks on you and if it's kept up, then you will become really sick. You may even die, and before you are supposed to.
If you feel weird or confused about things you hear, PAY ATTENTION! If something feels off, IT IS! There are no huge, huge conspiratorial venues just waiting to trap you. But... if you believe there are then that is what you'll find. You can make anything real or unreal. Fact or fiction is relative depending on the meaning/emotion you attach to it.
My Native Americans guides say you MUST do your very best to walk your truth, only your truth. Walk in beauty and in balance. You are indeed human and that is a rare gift and very special thing to be. Be happy, not fearful. There is much strength in a smiling face! Much strength…
See you next month at Shaman's Corner.

Each month, we randomly select, from among the e-mails received from you, one person to be featured in our
prayer circle. All we need from you is a paragraph or two about the person--and yes it can be
yourself--along with his/her name, age and place of residence. Use the "Submit Request" link above.
Oh, and don't think that only illnesses are worthy of prayers. It can be a strong desire, a job you're anxiously hoping for, or anything that keeps you
up nights wishing on the stars. You'll be amazed just how potent the power of prayer really is.
For Susan T.
My 31 year old daughter was found dead on May 29th of this year. I live 600 miles away from her. I've worked tirelessly for 5 months to prove that my ex son in law and a "friend" of my daughter's were involved. The police took no forensic evidence (for reasons still unknown to me). I involved every agency I can contact to look into this. We are being stonewalled at every turn. There is a precious little girl who still resides with this sociopath and is being abused. The "system" has failed us. I am asking for your prayers that the "truth" be shown in the light of day to those in authority that have the power to resolve this issue and pray that this little girl be returned to me and her aunties to be loved, nurtured and allowed to grow in the light.
Thank you

Whether we're aware of it or not, our energy is an important ingredient that goes into all the foods we make. So, be mindful of what you're thinking or feeling when you cook or bake. (Margarite Westo)
Note: It's been said by many wise teachers that blessing your food before you eat it helps to raise its vibrational energy and provides you with a more nutritious meal.
